Another Bad Day for Arlen?

Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

Senator Arlen Specter’s (D-PA) re-election bid hit some new bumps in the road today: a new poll from the Center for Opinion Research at Franklin & Marshall College indicates that his support in Pennsylvania has slipped dramatically since becoming a Democrat in April, with only 28 percent of Keystone State voters saying that Specter deserves re-election:

Those numbers have plunged in the latest survey. Whereas 57 percent of Democrats gave him good or excellent ratings in March, only 46 percent rate him as highly now. Among Republicans, 49 percent rated his job performance as good or excellent in March, and only 18 percent gave him those ratings last week.

“Even more troubling for the senator is that the proportion of state residents who believe he deserves re-election has declined from 40 percent to 28 percent," said the poll's director, G. Terry Madonna.

As Specter’s support continues to slip, U.S. Representative Joe Sestak (D-PA) continues to move forward with his plans to officially challenge Specter for the Democratic primary nomination.

Joe Sestak — who has been saying that the last thing standing between him and a challenge to  Arlen Specter is a conversation with his family — has now started discussing the race with family members and has even gotten a thumbs-up from his father.

We’re interested in what you have to say. So be sure to leave your thoughts on what could be an interesting primary battle to watch as we head toward 2010.

Who cares about Arlen's campaign? Forget Arlen - he's gone and good riddance. Now, if you'd only dump the other turncoats, e.g., Snow and Collins, I might actually switch back from "Independent" to "Republican." But that will not happen until the party of Reagan stops acting like the party of Rinos. Running a plea for donations to re-elect Lamebrain McCain on the home page only reinforces my point: The Republican Party learned NOTHING from last year's election.

    Amen.
  2. Arlen was "damned if he did or didn't" switch parties because he will be defeated this time and he knows it. Expect him to blame conservatives for it and for him to stick it to us every chance he gets.

The up side is that the party can't ram him down our throats anymore, so we'll be done with Arlen. Once and for all. Too bad McCain doesn't have a strong conservative challenger - I read that he's been sucking up to the White House on amnesty, again.
  3. We remember when Senator Specter voted against Robert Bork. Had he or someone of like mind been on the court now instead of Justice Kennedy, the Kelo vs. Town of New London Ct Supreme Court decision would have gone the other way.

I expect Senator Specter will support Judge Sotomayor and we will watch our property rights get further reduced.

We need a Republican majority to stop these judges who will hurt our property rights and that starts with Pat Toomey.

Who is the largest ideological voting bloc in the country?
    Conservatives.
Who's votes does the Republican Party need to win elections?
    Why, conservatives.
Who gives the most time, the most money, the most votes to the GOP?
    Why, again, conservatives.

So, WHY do you keep trying to shove your Rinos down our throughts? Not one minute, not one penny, not one vote until the GOP returns to the principles, values, and policies of Ronald Magnus Reagan.
  5. This is the REPUBLICAN Senate website, right? Why is there no mention of the REPUBLICAN who will challenge Specter?
  6. Glad to hear the MUGWUMP has hit a bump. Hope Sestak wins on the stump.
  7. Arlen Specter does not deserve the nomination of either party, as he has proven to be loyal to neither. Republicans don't trust him. Democrats don't trust him. And the fact that he has vacillated on positions over the years, depending on the political winds of the day, demonstrates he doesn't put the good of the country first, just the good of Specter. Good riddance!
