Specter’s Health Care Switch

Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA) announced yesterday his support of a public health care option.

Sen. Arlen Specter told a boisterous crowd of union activists today that he backs a public health insurance option as part of the health care overhaul Congress is debating.

"I know you are very interested in the public component and I think Senator Schumer has the right idea about having a public component," Specter said at a rally held at the Capitol City Brewery near Union Station.

It was however only last month, however, that Specter repeatedly said he would not support a public option on “Meet The Press”:

Specter’s flip-flop on health care comes the same week as new polling data shows only 28 percent of Pennsylvania voters believe he deserves another term in the U.S. Senate.

In addition to Specter’s sinking poll numbers, the speculation over U.S. Representative Joe Sestak’s (D-PA) potential Senate bid continues to mount, as he has now received the go-ahead from his father, and now his wife.

  1. I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked. A lying politician - who knew such creatures existed?

  2. Hello??????? The big news of the day is the procedural vote in the House on cap-and-trade. You should be beating the drums about the GOP's alternative Senate plan and the economy, the economy, the economy. Get a clue:
Most conservatives think good riddance to Arlen and most Americans are worried about surviving the recession.

    Take a lesson from Carville:
"It's the economy, stupid." Everything coming out of the Republican party should relate every Democratic proposal from cap-and-trade to healthcare to amnesty to its short and long term effects on individual Americans. You do want to win in 2010, yes? Because sometimes, you sure don't act or sound like it.
