Sen. Lackey

The older that Arlen Specter gets, he certainly doesn't get any wiser. But he does get more crotchety -- and in that opportunistic way that always exposes his motives as being rooted in political self-preservation.
Mr. Specter is a Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-Democrat. Pennsylvania's senior U.S. chameleon, er, senator of Philadelphia mounted the donkey again this year when it became clear he had outworn his welcome within the Pennsylvania GOP.
But Arlen Specter is running so scared in his new party that he's become a chatty parrot for the Democrats' talking points. To wit, on "Fox News Sunday," he called Republicans "a party of obstructionism" that's "not cooperating" on health care reform efforts.
