NRSC Chairman Statement on GOP Election Night Victories

National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Chairman John Cornyn (R-TX) released the following statement tonight:

"I congratulate newly-elected Governors Bob McDonnell and Chris Christie on their respective victories tonight.

"These Republican victories clearly demonstrate a strong wave for our candidates in the 2010 midterm elections. Despite the enormous support and funding from the President and national Democrats, independent-minded voters in purple and blue states sent a clear message today and voted for reigning in government spending, restoring fiscal responsibility, and re-establishing checks and balances in their states.

"Just one year after President Obama took control of the White House, the Republican Party has an opportunity in 2010 to unite under our shared values of lower taxes, smaller government, and individual responsibility. Together, we can fight against the Democrats’ big spending agenda in Washington and restore the accountability that Americans deserve."
