As President Obama prepares to return to Missouri this week and the health care debate continues in Washington, there have been a few recent items of note related to the state’s Senate race:
During this weekend’s Democrat Days, the St. Louis Beacon reports that in responding to her silence on the campaign trail: “Carnahan disputes that narrative, saying in an interview that she has been campaigning in communities around the state for months, but that the public and the press often haven’t been paying attention.”
Ironically, Carnahan’s few moments on the trail that have been captured on video have left us all confused about where she stands on the critical issues facing her state.

The Associated Press was finally able to nail down Carnahan as a “yes” vote on the Senate’s government takeover of health care on Christmas Eve. According to the AP: “Carnahan said she would have voted for the bill.
Meanwhile, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch noted this weekend that “For Carnahan, politics is the family business.” A few key excerpts:
For better or worse, U.S. Senate candidate Robin Carnahan can’t escape her family heritage. The Carnahans are the first family of Missouri politics… Her brother, Russ, is in Congress, as was her grandfather, who was also an ambassador… Blunt is turning the argument against his votes around and challenging Carnahan to take firm positions, an area where she has struggled early in the campaign. The Blunt camp, too, has made an issue of Carnahan’s connections to Washington, through her family’s generations of political influence. That influence helped shape Carnahan, says her mother, the former senator.
Finally, a few things still remain unclear surrounding the President’s visit this week – primarily, will Robin Carnahan appear with the President again? Or is the President writing off the Missouri Senate race? Is Robin Carnahan dodging the leader of her party while he’s in the state? Or will she stand with him and tout his unpopular health care bill?
