Halter Gains Liberal Momentum

In Arkansas, Blanche Lincoln’s fellow Washington Democrats are quietly starting to distance themselves as her liberal challenger Bill Halter gains momentum with the help of left-wing activists.  Roll Call reports:

Sen. Blanche Lincoln on Wednesday asked for, and received, assurances of support from her Democratic colleagues as she prepares for a June 8 primary runoff against Arkansas Lt. Gov. Bill Halter… But the extent of that support was vague as the three-week sprint to Election Day got under way…  Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.)… sidestepped specific questions of what forms of support he would offer. Pryor, who is not on the ballot this cycle, has not seen his image diminish at home the way Lincoln’s has… Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Bob Menendez (N.J.) was similarly ambiguous when asked Wednesday about plans for helping Lincoln.

So when will the DSCC finally come to Lincoln’s financial aid? National Journal’s Hotline OnCall reports that the liberal interest groups that championed Halter’s candidacy are prepared to do whatever it takes to put the far-left candidate over the top.

“We are certainly ready and able to spend whatever we need to spend on behalf of Halter,” said AFL-CIO Pol. Dir. Karen Ackerman. “We will spend the next 3 weeks … continuing the campaign to turn out voters.”

While Talk Business’ Roby Brock predicts in his Arkansas Election Line that the Democrat runoff now “Leans Halter.”

In the Democratic run-off election for the U.S. Senate, the Arkansas Election Line rates the race “Leans Halter.”… Lincoln has a tougher juggling act of re-defining herself to voters who have hardened in their description of her job performance. She is attempting to separate herself from the Washington, D.C. establishment, a tricky juggling act for a two-term incumbent and former member of Congress… [Halter] also stole deep pockets of support from Lincoln in areas of the state that have been and should still solidly be Lincoln country.
