In Florida, President Obama’s plans to fundraise in Miami next month is sure to “escalate speculation over what the president will or will not do on behalf of flailing Democrat establishment candidate Kendrick Meek.” The Miami Herald reports:
… The news of Obama’s trip will escalate speculation over what the president will or will not do on behalf of… Meek, who is struggling for traction in the U.S. Senate race…
Meanwhile, Meek stressed that “The help from the White House is very important, not only to my campaign, but to show primary voters that I’m the real Democrat in the race.” The Hill reports:
…Obama endorsed Meek earlier in the year, before Greene decided to enter the race. But the president has not held a fundraiser or campaign rally for the Florida Democrat…
The White House’s lukewarm support has fueled some intraparty conflict as Democrats are “demanding that Obama do more to aid Democrat Kendrick Meek.” Time Magazine reports:
…Democrats, including members of the Congressional Black Caucus, are demanding that Obama do more to aid Meek…
And as Meek’s billionaire challenger Jeff Greene continues to widen his lead, when will national Democrats finally put their money where their mouths are? The Wall Street Journal reports:
… Greene, a late entry in the race, has upended Meek’s bid for the party’s nomination in part because he has spent millions of dollars on ads introducing himself to Florida voters. He is all but guaranteed to outspend Meek in the closing weeks of the primary as well. Meek’s Senate campaign has failed to gather much momentum… and both men are trailing behind Republican Marco Rubio and Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running as an independent.
