Manchin’s Attempts at Class Warfare Are Backfiring

In West Virginia, liberal Joe Manchin’s  hypocritical and misleading attempts to “play up the class warfare angle” against Republican John Raese backfired yesterday as the Weekly Standard reports that Manchin has some “expensive tastes so his own,” including a 54-foot yacht:

Well, it turns out Manchin has some expensive tastes of his own. Ben Smith notes that Manchin is “part-owner of a rather nice 54-foot yacht, called the Black Tie…. Manchin flew down to Mobile Alabama on a state plane to pick it up in 2005, and hastily reimbursed the state $5,400 for the flight after the local press called to ask about it. “A $1 million renovation to the Governor’s Mansion will include adding a whirlpool tub, a wet bar and 12 flat-screen televisions to the home, and turning the third floor into a game room and media center.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times writes that West Virginians are “unwilling to give the seat to another career politician” like liberal Joe Manchin who will rubberstamp the unpopular President’s reckless spending agenda:

Still, after Byrd’s death in June ended a 51-year reign in the Senate, West Virginia voters have seemed unwilling to give the seat to another career politician. Meanwhile, President Obama — who lost the state in 2008 by 13 percentage points — is seen as a symbol of dysfunctional Washington.
