With the House of Representatives voting today to repeal President Obama’s budget-busting health care bill, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) called on Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) to allow a similar vote on this measure in the Senate.
Senate Democrats are refusing to allow the Senate to even consider the measure — let alone hold a vote – while the Washington Post reported last week that in a renewed effort to “sell” ObamaCare, the White House “set up a rapid-response operation and was planning to deploy Cabinet secretaries this week to make the Democrats’ case in newspaper editorials, on the radio and in satellite interviews with local television stations.”
“Americans deserve a vote, not a sales pitch, and if Bill Nelson truly believes most Floridians are on his side in supporting $570 billion in new taxes and $500 billion in cuts to Medicare, then he should step forward and allow the American people to see the votes. The question is – why won’t he?” National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Chris Bond asked today.
“Every time Floridians hear Senator Nelson proclaim his political independence, they should look no further than this issue and this debate. Senator Nelson has an opportunity to finally stand with the thousands of Floridians who have voiced their opposition to this budget-busting monstrosity, and replace it with a common-sense approach that will lower costs for middle-class families and small businesses. The sad reality, however, is that instead of standing with Florida’s families, Bill Nelson is once again standing with his liberal party leaders in Washington,” Bond concluded.

This proposal deserves a chance to work. It is too important to be treated as collateral damage in a partisan mission to repeal health care,’ wrote Reid, Majority Whip Dick Durbin (Ill.), Democratic Vice Chairman Charles Schumer (N.Y.), Conference Secretary Patty Murray (Wash.) and Policy Committee Vice Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (Mich.).” (“Senate Dems Warn Boehner: Don’t Bother With Healthcare Repeal,” The Hill’s Blog Briefing Room, 1/3/11)
