Menendez-Malinsky Watch: Day 3

Days After Schumer, Gillibrand Ditch Their Tainted Cash, Will Senator Menendez Finally Do The Same, Explain Relationship With Indicted Developer?

It’s been three days since reports surfaced of U.S. Senator Bob Menendez’s (D-NJ) connection to Aaron Malinsky – an indicted New York real estate developer who “faces federal conspiracy and money-laundering charges for allegedly funneling secret cash payments” to at least one New York state lawmaker.

But while New York’s U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand quickly dumped their own tainted Malinsky cash on Monday, Menendez is attempting to ride this scandal out, insisting that he must “conduct a thorough review of the facts” before deciding whether to return the contributions, but remaining silent ever since.

Making for another notable contrast, while Schumer and Gillibrand each received $250 from Malinsky, Bob Menendez has taken more than $20,000 from Malinsky, and at least $13,000 in additional contributions from members of the Malinsky family.

The indicted Malinsky’s outsized interest in advancing Bob Menendez’s political career, and Menendez’s continuing refusal to rid himself of Malinsky’s cash, add to growing questions surrounding the New Jersey Senator, who himself remains under federal investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.

As this scandal reaches its third day, pressure continues to grow on Menendez to finally return his tainted cash and fully explain to voters his relationship with this indicted New York real estate developer.

“It’s been three days since Senators Schumer and Gillibrand dumped their own tainted cash from this indicted developer, so why does Bob Menendez still refuse to divest himself of the $33,000 in question?” asked National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Press Secretary Chris Bond. “New Jersey’s families deserve far better from their junior Senator, so when will Bob Menendez finally step up and fully explain his relationship with this indicted developer who helped bankroll his campaign?”
