What About On Gov’t Health Care, Reckless Spending, $14 Trillion Debt?
In an interview earlier today with West Virginia radio host Hoppy Kercheval, liberal U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) admitted that, when it comes to opposing the Obama Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) efforts to circumvent Congress and impose job-killing regulations, West Virginians would be better off if the U.S. Senate were controlled by Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), rather than liberal Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). Notably, Manchin’s first vote upon arriving in Washington was to elect Harry Reid as U.S. Senate Majority Leader.

But while Manchin insisted a Republican-led Senate would only be better for his state on just “this one issue,” he failed to explain to voters why he thinks liberal Harry Reid is better for his state on every other issue. The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) today called on Manchin to explain to voters why, on issues such as health care, spending and debt, he believes West Virginia is better off with liberal Harry Reid as Senate Majority Leader.
“Senator Manchin admits that when it comes to stopping the EPA’s job-killing power-grab, West Virginia would be better off with a Republican-controlled Senate – and we agree,” said NRSC spokesman Chris Bond. “But we look forward to hearing Manchin explain to voters why he still sides with his liberal Washington party bosses when it comes to issues like ObamaCare, out-of-control government spending, and a massive $14 trillion debt.”
Additionally, Manchin told Kercheval today that he expects 13 to 15 Democrat Senators will vote for Republican Leader Mitch McConnell’s amendment to stop the EPA’s power grab. With Manchin still the only Democrat to voice support for the measure, we look forward to seeing the result of this vote.
