As Fellow Democrats & Republicans Call For Weiner’s Resignation, Menendez Remains Silent

Continues To Stand By Lewd New York Rep?

As he continues to posture himself on a wide variety of issues in advance of his tough reelection bid, liberal U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) has remained conspicuously silent on the explosive controversy regarding his friend and colleague U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner’s (D-NY) lewd online behavior.

In the face of Republican calls for Weiner’s resignation, House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) asked for an ethics investigation into Weiner’s behavior – after which Menendez’s fellow Democrats Betty Sutton (D-OH) and Tim Walz (D-MN) dumped thousands of dollars in campaign cash they took from Weiner.  And reports today show that even former DNC Chairman Tim Kaine is now calling for Weiner’s resignation.  But Menendez – who is the only sitting U.S. Senator currently under federal investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice – has yet to tell New Jersey voters where he stands.

“As his fellow Washington Democrats call for Anthony Weiner’s resignation in the wake of these disturbing admissions, why does Bob Menendez still refuse to tell voters where he stands?” asked National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Chris Bond.  “Does Menendez continue to stand by his scandal-plagued friend, or will he join the growing chorus on both sides of the aisle for Weiner to step down?”
