As Fellow Democrats & Republicans Call For Weiner’s Resignation, Murphy Remains Silent

Continues To Stand By Lewd New York Rep?

As he continues to posture himself on a wide variety of issues during this divisive Democrat U.S. Senate primary, liberal U.S. Representative Chris Murphy (D-CT) has remained conspicuously silent on the explosive controversy regarding his friend and colleague U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner’s (D-NY) lewd online behavior.

In the face of Republican calls for Weiner’s resignation, Murphy’s boss, House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) asked for an ethics investigation into Weiner’s behavior, after which Murphy’s fellow House Democrats Betty Sutton (D-OH) and Tim Walz (D-MN) dumped thousands of dollars in campaign cash they took from Weiner.  And reports today show that even former DNC Chairman Tim Kaine is now calling for Weiner’s resignation.  But neither Murphy nor his primary opponent Susan Bysiewicz (D-CT) have told voters where they stand.

“As his fellow Washington Democrats call for Anthony Weiner’s resignation in the wake of these disturbing admissions, why does Chris Murphy still refuse to tell voters where he stands?” asked National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Chris Bond.  “Does Murphy continue to stand by his scandal-plagued Democrat colleague, or will he join the growing chorus on both sides of the aisle for Weiner to step down?  It would also be worth asking Susan Bysiewicz her thoughts on this matter.”
