Continues To Stand By Lewd New York Rep?

As she continues to posture herself on a wide variety of issues in advance of her reelection bid, liberal U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) has remained conspicuously silent on the explosive controversy regarding her Democrat colleague U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner’s (D-NY) lewd online behavior.

In the face of Republican calls for Weiner’s resignation, House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) asked for an ethics investigation into Weiner’s behavior, after which Stabenow’s fellow Democrats Betty Sutton (D-OH) and Tim Walz (D-MN) dumped thousands of dollars in campaign cash they took from Weiner.  And reports today show that even former DNC Chairman Tim Kaine is now calling for Weiner’s resignation.  But Stabenow has yet to tell Michiganders where she stands.

“As her fellow Washington Democrats call for Anthony Weiner’s resignation in the wake of these disturbing admissions, why does Debbie Stabenow still refuse to tell voters where she stands?” asked National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox.  “Does Stabenow continue to stand by her scandal-plagued Democrat colleague, or will she join the growing chorus on both sides of the aisle for Weiner to step down?”
