Walks In Lockstep With Obama, D.C. Party Bosses, Against Montanans’ Interests
It’s been more than 790 days since liberal U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) and his fellow Senate Democrats passed a federal budget – during which time our national debt has exploded to a record-high $14.3 trillion.
But as Senate Republicans today propose – and unanimously support – a common-sense Balanced Budget Amendment to finally bring Washington’s spending and debt under control, Tester is standing instead with President Barack Obama and the rest of his Washington party bosses, joining their calls for new job-killing tax hikes and yet another round of wasteful “stimulus” spending.
Notably, as a candidate for U.S. Senate in 2006 Tester promised voters he would “lead efforts to balance the federal budget” in Washington. But since arriving in the Senate, Tester has broken his promise to middle-class Montanans, joining his liberal Democrat colleagues as they continue to abdicate their basic responsibility to pass a federal budget.
“As a candidate in 2006, Jon Tester promised Montanans he would ‘lead efforts to balance the federal budget,’ but instead it’s been more than 790 days since he and his Democrat colleagues passed any budget at all,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Chris Bond. “Now Tester is breaking his promise to Montanans yet again by opposing this proposal to finally balance our budget. Every Montana family has to live by a budget, so why shouldn’t Jon Tester and President Obama?”

‘VAST MAJORITY OF AMERICANS FAVOR BALANCED BUDGET AMENDMENT’
“…there is overwhelming support for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution requiring a balanced budget… Interest in enacting a balanced budget amendment clearly has spiked due to the unprecedented increase of budget deficits in excess of $1.6 trillion.” (“Poll: Vast Majority of Americans Favor Balanced Budget Amendment,” Yahoo News, 5/27/11)
