Unemployment Rises To 9.1% In Wake Of Berkley & Obama’s Failed $787 Billion Stimulus

In yet another reminder that President Obama and liberal U.S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley’s (D-NV) $787 billion stimulus failed to create jobs while driving our national debt past $14.3 trillion, the U.S. Department of Labor reports today that national unemployment has risen again to 9.1 percent.

Today’s rise in unemployment is just the latest development to highlight the failure of Obama and Berkley’s tax-and-spend economic policies in Washington.  While Berkley and the Obama Administration promised their $787 billion stimulus would create “millions of new jobs” and keep national unemployment below 8 percent, the United States has actually lost more than 1.8 million jobs since Berkley helped her Washington party bosses ram it into law – and national unemployment has remained above 8 percent now for 28 consecutive months.

“As the unemployment rate rises to 9.1 percent, Nevadans are reminded once again that the Obama-Reid-Georgiou-Berkley agenda of reckless spending has failed to create the promised jobs while driving our national debt past a record $14.3 trillion,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox.

BERKLEY CLAIMED HER $787 BILLION STIMULUS WOULD CREATE JOBS

Berkley Said The Stimulus Bill Would “Create Or Save 4 Million Jobs Over The Next Two Years,” Nationwide. In my district, thousands of construction workers will be put back to work improving infrastructure, building renewable energy facilities, improving school buildings and generally strengthening the future of our nation.” (“Rep. Berkley Urges Passage Of Broad Stimulus Package,” Congresswoman Shelley Berkley Press Release, 1/27/09)

After Voting For The Bill, Berkley Said The Stimulus Package Would Create “Millions Of New Jobs.” Shelley Berkley: “Nevada families and businesses will benefit from the resources included in this broad stimulus package, which will create millions of new jobs and fund important needs like education, healthcare and clean energy production. Families will also see a tax savings of up to $1,000 per year that they can use to help cover expenses from groceries to gas and rent, said Berkley, who helped to shape the tax relief provisions included in the stimulus package through her seat on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.” (“Broad Stimulus Package Will Create New Jobs, Deliver Needed Help For Families This Is An Investment In Future Of Nevada And Nation,” Congresswoman Shelley Berkley Press Release, 1/28/09)

Berkley Cited White House Statistics That Claimed The Stimulus Bill Would “Create Or Save 34,000” Jobs In Nevada. “‘From incentives to increase clean energy production to funding for work on I-15 and the Las Vegas Beltway, this package will mean jobs for Nevada at a time when we continue to face record unemployment levels,’ said Berkley. ‘According to the White House, passage of this legislation will create or save 34,000 jobs statewide, with the majority of those in Clark County.’” (“Rep.
