Unemployment Rises To 9.1% In Wake Of Heinrich & Obama’s Failed $787 Billion Stimulus

In yet another reminder that President Obama and liberal U.S. Congressman Martin Heinrich’s (D-NM) $787 billion stimulus failed to create jobs while driving our national debt past $14.3 trillion, the U.S. Department of Labor reports today that national unemployment has risen again to 9.1 percent.

Today’s rise in unemployment is just the latest development to highlight the failure of Obama and Heinrich’s tax-and-spend economic policies in Washington.  While Heinrich and the Obama Administration promised their $787 billion stimulus would create “millions of new jobs” and keep national unemployment below 8 percent, the United States has actually lost more than 1.8 million jobs since Heinrich helped his Washington party bosses ram it into law – and national unemployment has remained above 8 percent now for 28 consecutive months.

“As the unemployment rate rises to 9.1 percent, New Mexicans are reminded once again that the Obama-Heinrich-Balderas agenda of reckless spending has failed to create the promised jobs while driving our national debt past a record $14.3 trillion,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox.

Background Info:

HEINRICH CLAIMED HIS $787 BILLION STIMULUS WOULD CREATE JOBS

Heinrich Called The Stimulus A “Jobs Creation Package.” “‘This jobs creation package will rebuild America’s economy, making us more globally competitive and energy independent, while providing 95% of Americans with immediate tax relief,’ said Rep. Heinrich.” (Congressman Martin Heinrich, “New Mexico Delegation Supports American Recovery And Reinvestment Act That Could Create 22,000 Jobs In New Mexico,” Press Release, 2/13/09)

Heinrich’s Office Said His Vote For The Stimulus Was A Vote To “Get Our Economy Back On Track,” And “Provide Significant Relief For New Mexico.” “Congressmen Martin Heinrich, Harry Teague and Ben Ray Luján voted today to get our economy back on track. The New Mexico delegation joined together to vote in favor of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which will provide significant relief for New Mexico, as part of a broader effort to save and create jobs and rebuild the economy.” (Congressman Martin Heinrich, “New Mexico Delegation Supports American Recovery And Reinvestment Act That Could Create 22,000 Jobs In New Mexico,” Press Release, 2/13/09)

Heinrich Said The Stimulus Would “Create Good Jobs,” And He Was Hopeful His Constituents Would “Feel Swift Economic Relief.” “‘This bold recovery and jobs package will create good jobs for the 1st Congressional District and provide much needed tax relief for working families,’ said Representative Heinrich. ‘The people of Central New Mexico work hard and this economic downturn has been difficult for far too many. With the immediate tax relief and investment in our infrastructure that this plan provides I am hopeful that my constituents will feel swift economic relief.’” (Congressman Martin Heinrich, “New Mexico House Delegation Outlines Economic Recovery Package,” Press Release, 1/27/09)

In October Of 2010, Heinrich Defended His Vote For The Stimulus, Saying It Was “Something That Was Necessary.” “On the subject of the economy – widely considered the defining issue of the 2010 elections – Heinrich defended his vote in support of the $787 billion economic recovery act, or stimulus plan, that Congress approved last year. ‘I didn’t run wanting to pass a stimulus bill; it wasn’t part of what motivated me to want to be in Congress,’ he said. ‘It was something that was necessary and, frankly, unpleasant. But I am pleased with how some of those monies have been spent in this district.’” (Michael Coleman, “A Race Of Contrasts,” Albuquerque Journal, 10/10/10)
