Why Doesn’t Martin Heinrich Agree With His Colleague That More Spending & Tax Hikes Should Be Off The Table?

Again Stands With Obama, Left Wing Of Democrat Party In Washington

With our national debt already topping a record $14.3 trillion, liberal U.S. Congressman Martin Heinrich (D-NM) is standing with the left wing of the Democrat party in Washington as they continue to put crucial debt negotiations at risk with their insistence on more wasteful spending and job-killing tax hikes.  Meanwhile, even some of Heinrich’s fellow Democrats are beginning to join Republican calls to take these harmful proposals off the table, including U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV).

As Politico reports:

“Manchin, who is a top GOP target in next year’s elections, has said he will not vote to raise the debt ceiling without spending reforms, and sides with the Republicans on keeping tax raises off the table.  ‘I don’t believe in tax hikes,’ Manchin said. ‘We have to start living within our means in this country.’”

“At a time when our debt has skyrocketed past $14 trillion and too many New Mexicans are still out of work, it’s remarkable that Martin Heinrich and Hector Balderas are standing with President Obama in support of more spending and job-killing tax hikes,”  said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox.
