After Campaigning On Support For A Balanced Budget, McCaskill Votes Against Even Debating Balanced Budget Amendment

Was For A Balanced Budget Before She Was Against It

As a candidate for U.S. Senate in 2006, Democrat Claire McCaskill (D-MO) routinely preached the importance of fiscal responsibility, and even said just weeks ago that it “would be great” to have a balanced budget amendment in Washington.

But today, McCaskill voted with her Washington party bosses against even considering a measure to balance the federal budget while cutting runaway spending now and capping Washington’s spending in the future – just the latest in a long pattern of McCaskill putting her liberal Washington agenda ahead of keeping her promises to Missourians.

In fact, it’s been 814 days since McCaskill and her fellow Senate Democrats have proposed any federal budget, much less the balanced budget McCaskill claimed to support.

“Sadly, it’s not surprising that Senator McCaskill would flip-flop on what she said just weeks ago, and vote against even considering a balanced federal budget today.  But Missourians are no doubt wondering how McCaskill explains her vote today in light of her repeated claims that she supported a balanced budget in Washington.” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Chris Bond today.  “Apparently McCaskill was for a balanced budget before she was against it.”

Since coming to Washington, McCaskill has routinely abandoned her previous support for fiscal responsibility, instead choosing to rubberstamp reckless spending like President Barack Obama’s failed $787 billion stimulus.  McCaskill gave the crucial 60th vote to pass ObamaCare, which raises taxes, cuts Medicare in order to grow Washington’s reach into other parts of the health care market, and imposes an onerous individual mandate that 71 percent of Missouri voters rejected at the polls last year – all while increasing our federal deficit by $260 billion through 2019.

McCASKILL HAS REPEATEDLY EXPRESSED SUPPORT FOR A BALANCED FEDERAL BUDGET :
