After Failing To Pass Any Budget For 806 Days, McCaskill Turns To Personal Attacks

Says Republican Leader Has “Lost His Mind” For Opposing Her Job-Killing Tax Hikes, Fighting For Balanced Budget She Repeatedly Promised To Support

As a candidate for U.S. Senate in 2006, Democrat Claire McCaskill promised Missourians she would support a balanced budget in Washington – even saying just two weeks ago that it “would be great” to have a federal Balanced Budget Amendment.  Instead, it’s been 806 days since McCaskill and her fellow Senate Democrats passed any federal budget, much less a balanced budget.

But rather than take responsibility for her broken promises and failure to perform this basic job function, McCaskill is opening the door to a trillion-dollar job-killing tax hike and resorting to personal attacks – saying on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” today that raising taxes on families and job creators could give the federal government “easily $1 trillion over the next ten years, and probably multiples of that… for the life of me, I can’t figure out – I think Mitch McConnell has lost his mind” (for not agreeing to raise taxes).

Ironically, just moments after her outburst, McCaskill had the nerve to chide others for their tone, saying “[i]f we ratchet down the politics… we can get it done.”

“With our national debt ballooning past $14.3 trillion, Claire McCaskill and the Democrats have refused to pass a federal budget for over 800 days – and now she wants to shift the blame and stick taxpayers with a trillion-dollar price tag for her reckless deficit spending?” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Chris Bond.  “Clearly McCaskill is feeling very worried about her uphill reelection bid given her broken promises and recent exposure as a tax cheat, but perhaps she should stop the Washington blame game and start doing her job on behalf of Missourians.”

Meanwhile, in the 806 days since McCaskill and the Democrats passed a budget, our national debt has ballooned to a record-high $14.3 trillion, and now the U.S. Treasury reports that our federal government’s deficit is on track to top $1 trillion this fiscal year.
