More Empty Rhetoric From Obama & Manchin As Jobless Claims Rise Again

Dangerous Déjà Vu In 30th Consecutive Month Of 8%+ Unemployment

As he cheered his fellow Democrats for ramming President Barack Obama’s $787 billion stimulus into law, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) claimed it would create jobs and help get our economy back on track, while his friends in the Obama Administration projected the spending binge would hold unemployment below 8 percent.

But instead, our country has lost 2.4 million jobs since President Obama came into office, while unemployment stands at 9.1 percent and has been above 8 percent for 30 consecutive months.  And today, Bloomberg reports that jobless claims continue to rise:

More Americans than forecast filed applications for unemployment benefits last week, signaling the labor market is struggling two years into the economic recovery. Jobless claims climbed by 9,000 to 408,000 in the week ended Aug. 13, the highest in a month, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg News projected a rise in claims to 400,000, according to the median forecast.

Meanwhile, headlines reveal that Manchin, Obama, and their fellow Washington Democrats have nothing to offer Americans but more of the same empty rhetoric they have been spouting for the last two years:

Now…

Washington Post, August 18, 2011: “President Plans Address On Ideas For Job Creation And Deficit Reduction”

Wheeling News-Register, August 17, 2011: “And the focus of Congress should be jobs, according to Manchin. ‘Everybody’s talking about jobs, and it’s always been about jobs,’ he said. ‘If you’ve got a job in America today, you’re probably concerned if you’re going to keep it.’”

Then…

Washington Post, December 8, 2009: “Obama Preparing New Push To Add Jobs, Tackle Deficit.”

Press Conference, February 22, 2009: MANCHIN: The Stimulus Will “Make A Big Difference In The Job Market.”

“As jobless claims rise yet again, it’s clear that Joe Manchin and President Obama have absolutely nothing to offer West Virginians suffering in the wake of their failed $787 billion stimulus,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Chris Bond.  “Rather than simply admitting their failure to create jobs while driving our debt to $14.5 trillion, and changing course, Obama and Manchin continue to spout the same empty rhetoric as they push for more reckless deficit spending.”
