Dangerous Déjà Vu In 30th Consecutive Month Of 8%+ Unemployment
As he helped President Barack Obama ram the $787 billion stimulus into law, U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) claimed it would create jobs and help get our economy back on track, while his friends in the Obama Administration projected the spending binge would hold unemployment below 8 percent.
But instead, our country has lost 2.4 million jobs since President Obama came into office, while unemployment stands at 9.1 percent and has been above 8 percent for 30 consecutive months. And today, Bloomberg reports that jobless claims continue to rise:
More Americans than forecast filed applications for unemployment benefits last week, signaling the labor market is struggling two years into the economic recovery. Jobless claims climbed by 9,000 to 408,000 in the week ended Aug. 13, the highest in a month, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg News projected a rise in claims to 400,000, according to the median forecast.
Meanwhile, headlines today reveal that Tester, Obama and the Washington Democrats have nothing to offer Americans but more of the same empty rhetoric they have been spouting for the last two years:
