As Obama, Kaine Pitch Costly New “Stimulus” Spending In Richmond, Voters Reminded Of Their Failed Economic Agenda

Claimed First $787 Billion Spending Spree Would Create Millions Of Jobs

As President Barack Obama and former DNC Chairman Tim Kaine travel to Richmond today to attempt to sell Virginians on their proposal for yet another round of costly deficit “stimulus” spending, Virginians are reminded that Kaine has spent the last several years as the number-one cheerleader for Obama’s original failed $787 billion “stimulus” debacle.

Kaine claimed that the original spending binge would create millions of new jobs, while his bosses in the Obama Administration even projected that it would hold unemployment below 8 percent.  But instead, the country has lost 2.4 million jobs since Obama took office, and America is now in its 31st consecutive month of above-8-percent unemployment.

Notably, in addition to joining his former boss in Richmond today, Kaine spent last night reaping the rewards of his partisan water-carrying at a ritzy fundraiser with elite Obama bundlers in Chicago.

“President Obama and Tim Kaine’s first round of costly ‘stimulus’ spending failed to create the jobs they promised while driving our national debt through the roof, so why do they want to stand side-by-side and make the same mistake again?” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Chris Bond.  “It’s clear that Washington Democrats like Kaine and Obama have absolutely no new ideas to offer Virginians – just more of the same wasteful deficit spending, crushing debt, and job-killing tax hikes.”

Meanwhile, WTVR’s Mark Holmberg notes Obama’s choice of venue:

So President Obama is giving his jobs speech and discussion at the University or Richmond, a campus as far removed from hard times as you can possibly get? Really? “This is a jobs venue?” asked an incredulous Paul Goldman, the democratic strategist behind Doug Wilder’s historic run to Virginia’s governor’s mansion… It’s one of the nation’s richest universities, with an endowment of almost $1.5 billion, situated in one of Virginia’s toniest districts, nestled between exclusive neighborhoods and the Country Club of Virginia. It is the ninth most expensive university to attend in the US – well over $40,000 a year. It’s very selective and not very diverse… And the university is home to staunch Obama ally and U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine, the former Richmond mayor, Virginia governor and now distinguished lecturer at UR.

Kaine: “The President And Members Of Congress Have Passed A Stimulus Plan That Will Help Jumpstart The Economy And Accomplish Critical Objectives To Get Our Economy Growing Again.” (DNC Chairman Tim Kaine, www.youtube.com, 2/6/2009)

Tim Kaine Said The Stimulus Would Create Or Save Over 3 Million Jobs. Kaine: “. . . The stimulus bill does three things, Gretchen. It has tax cuts for working Americans — those that make — their families make less than $150,000 a year so they can pay bills, put food on the table, help their kids go to college and start spending again. It has infrastructure spending — roads, bridges, alternative energy projects — that will put people to work and then build a platform for greater economic growth. And then it has an important piece of relief as we take care of rising Medicaid and unemployment rolls for Americans that have been hit so hard by 1.8 million job losses in the last three months. This is exactly what we ought to do. We’ll create or save more than 3 million jobs — 90 percent of them in the private sector.” (Fox News, “Fox And Friends,” 2/10/09)
