For The 3rd Straight Month Florida’s Unemployment Rate Remains At 10.7 Percent
Earlier today, the Department of Labor reported that Florida’s unemployment rate was at 10.7 percent for the month of August. This is the third straight month Florida’s unemployment rate has remained at 10.7 percent and there are now 987,000 unemployed Floridians.
As the Orlando Sentinel reports:
Florida’s unemployment rate in August was 10.7 percent, unchanged from July and about 1 percentage point lower than the same time last year. The number represents 987,000 jobless people out of a labor force of 9.2 million. The state’s rate is 1.6 percentage points higher than the national rate of 9.1 percent.
“Today’s jobs report is just another painful reminder of the failed economic policies of Bill Nelson, because instead of supporting pro-growth, pro-jobs legislation Nelson has voted for job-killing initiatives government-run healthcare – which cut $500 billion from Medicare – and the failed $787 billion stimulus,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox. “With nearly one million unemployed Floridians, it’s clear the Sunshine State cannot afford the big government, tax-and-spend agenda of Bill Nelson.”
