In 2009, liberal United States Senator Sherrod Brown told Ohioans that he would be supporting Barack Obama’s $825 billion stimulus, because it was a “jobs” bill that would help repair America’s aging roads and bridges, including the Brent Spence Bridge.
After the bill passed the House of Representatives it was revealed that only 5 percent of the so-called stimulus was spent on infrastructure. It was then revealed that billions of dollars were given to tax cheats and millions of dollars were spent in fictitious congressional districts like a $660,000 project in Ohio’s 99th Congressional District.
Now that it’s been widely accepted that the first stimulus was a boondoggle that never repaired the Brent Spence Bridge, let alone ‘saved or created’ 133,000 Ohio jobs, Sherrod Brown – America’s most liberal senator – wants a do-over as Democrats in the Senate will be voting on a $50 billion infrastructure stimulus later this week.
As The Hill reports:
President Obama’s proposal to create a national infrastructure bank and spend $50 billion on transportation to stimulate job growth will be up for a vote in the Senate this week. … The president incorporated it into his proposal for a $447 billion jobs act, which the Senate is now voting on in pieces after its rejection as a package.
“Sherrod Brown said that the first $825 billion stimulus would help repair the Brent Spence Bridge along with other infrastructure projects, but rather than explaining what went wrong, he wants another $50 billion in government stimulus so he and Obama can have a mulligan. With our country’s debt at nearly $15 trillion, Ohio simply cannot afford the job-killing, tax-and-spend experiments of Barack Obama and Sherrod Brown.” Jahan Wilcox, NRSC Spokesman

Brown Said The Stimulus Accomplished Infrastructure Improvements “Like Water, Sewer, Highway And Bridge Projects.” “U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat from Avon who was in Wooster Wednesday for a dairy roundtable, said the stimulus has worked. Much has been accomplished, like home weatherization for seniors and low-income families, and infrastructure improvements, like water, sewer, highway and bridge projects, he said.” (Bobby Warren, “Business Leaders: Recovery Will Be Long And Slow,” Daily Record [Wooster, OH], 9/6/10)
Brown Said There Were “Shovel-Ready” Projects For Water Sewer And Bridge Projects That Would Be Funded By The Stimulus Bill. BROWN: “But we do need to do direct spending on job creation. That means shovel-ready projects for water and sewer systems whether it’s the Brent Spence Bridge in Cincinnati that will put a lot of people to work and help with economic development, or whether it’s a water and sewer system in Defiance, Ohio or in Nashville. It’s pretty clear to me that we need direct spending on projects that are ready to go, particularly, green projects that put people to work immediately but also help longer term and economic development.” (MNSBC’s, “Morning Joe,” 1/28/09)
Brown Said Every Chamber Of Commerce In His State Told Him “We Need Safe Drinking Water And We Need Water And Sewer And Bridges And Highway Systems That Will Help Us Do Economic Development.” BROWN: “Every chamber of commerce official in my state, I’ve had roundtables in all 88 counties in the last 25 months or so, and every one of them will say we need better infrastructure so we can create jobs. We need safe drinking water and we need water and sewer and bridges and highway systems that will help us do economic development and they’re standing in the way.” (MSNBC’s, 2/6/09)
