All-Time Low: Obama-Nelson Health Care Overhaul More Unpopular Than Ever…

More Bad News For Ben Nelson As ObamaCare Approval Hits An All-Time Low

A few days after it was reported that American Enterprise Insurance will soon eliminate 70 jobs in Omaha, because of the job-killing regulations of ObamaCare, the Kaiser Family Foundation has now released a poll that found Nelson’s healthcare law is less popular than ever.

The poll’s summary and toplines show a bleak picture for Nelson, Obama, and their fellow Washington Democrats:

  • Overall favorability of the law stands at 34%, an all-time low;
  • The percentage of very favorable support stands at 12%, an all-time low;
  • The percentage of respondents who think they personally will be better off due to the law stands at a mere 18%, an all-time low;
  • The percentage of respondents who think the country as a whole will be better off due to the law stands at 28%, an all-time low;
  • Approval of the law among Democrats dropped by 13% in the last month to only 52%, an all-time low.

“As approval for ObamaCare hits an all-time low, Nebraskans will remember that Ben Nelson cast the deciding vote to ram it into law,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox today.  “When will Nelson finally acknowledge the reality that his and Obama’s health care debacle is so unpopular because of its onerous mandates, harmful results to Nebraska’s patients and doctors, and tremendous cost to Nebraska taxpayers?”

Nelson insists that ObamaCare is “good for our country and good for Nebraska.”  But notably, the U.S. Senate Finance and U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committees released a joint report earlier this year, estimating that ObamaCare’s Medicaid spending mandates alone will cost states at least $118 billion through the first decade of full implementation (through 2013).  Specifically, the report reveals that Nelson’s new mandates will cost Nebraska $765 million over five years.

Nelson: “This Legislation Is Good For Our Country And Good For Nebraska.” (Senator Ben Nelson, “Nelson Statement On Health Care Deal,” Press Release, 12/19/09)

Nelson: “I Truly Believe This Legislation Will Stand The Test Of Time And Will Be Noted As One Of The Major Reforms Of The 21st Century; Much Like Social Security, Medicare, And Civil Rights Legislation Were Milestones Of The 20th Century. Because of Senator Reid’s dedication and hard work, the lives of tens of millions of Americans will be improved, lives will be saved, and our health care system will once again reflect the better nature of our country.” (Senator Ben Nelson, “Nelson Statement On Health Care Deal,” Press Release, 12/19/09)

Nelson Said The Health Care Bill Held Down Spending, Helped Small Businesses, Improved Care And Controlled Costs. Nelson: “Today, the Senate approved historic health reform. Let me be clear: it is not a government-run insurance program. It meets the principles I laid out for Nebraskans last summer: that it must hold down spending, help our small businesses, improve care, control costs and, most importantly, work for Nebraska.” (Senator Ben Nelson, “Nelson Statement On Final Senate Health Care Vote,” Press Release, 12/24/09)
