The President Is Expected To Visit Las Vegas Next Monday, But The Congresswoman Refuses To Take A Position On His So-Called Jobs Bills
Next Monday, President Barack Obama is expected to visit Las Vegas where he is likely to stump for another $450 billion stimulus, which has been introduced by none other than Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Republicans – and even some Democrats – oppose this legislation, because this spending spree is nothing more than a redux of the first $825 billion stimulus that gave billions of dollars to tax cheats and sent millions of dollars to fictitious congressional districts like Nevada’s 32nd congressional district.
One person who has refused to take a position is Congresswoman Shelley Berkley. Additionally, it’s unknown if Ms. Berkley, who attended the signing of ObamaCare and spoke at the President’s last campaign event at Orr Middle School in Las Vegas, will even attend this upcoming Presidential event being held in her backyard.
“Shelley Berkley has been a loyal supporter of President Obama as she’s voted for his first $825 billion stimulus, his job-killing healthcare bill and even spoke at his campaign rallies, so it’s odd that the outspoken Congresswoman has refused to take a position on another $450 billion stimulus proposed by the President,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox. “With an unemployment rate of 13.4 percent, Nevadans deserve to know if Berkley will rubberstamp yet another tax-and-spend initiative from Barack Obama and Harry Reid.”
BACKGROUND
Berkley Promised That Her First $825 Billion Stimulus Would ‘Create Or Save’ 34,000 Nevada Jobs
SHELLEY BERKLEY: “From incentives to increase clean energy production to funding for work on I-15 and the Las Vegas Beltway, this [stimulus] package will mean jobs for Nevada at a time when we continue to face record unemployment levels,” said Berkley. “According to the White House, passage of this legislation will create or save 34,000 jobs statewide, with the majority of those in Clark County.” (Shelley Berkley, Berkley: Report Shows Broad Economic Recovery Package Will Mean More Nevada Jobs, Press Release, 02/12/09)
But Since Berkley’s Stimulus Was Signed Into Law Nevada Has Lost Nearly 70,000 Jobs And The State Has Become The Unemployment Capital Of The Country
BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS: As Of August 2011, Nevada Has Lost Over 68,719 Jobs Since The Stimulus Passed In February 2009. (Bureau Of Labor Statistics Website, www.data.bls.gov, Accessed 10/16/11)
