Recommendations for Democratic campaign donations

Memo

Re:                              Recommendations for Democratic campaign donations

Congratulations on your entry into the race for U.S. Senate in Maine.   As you’re surely aware, national Democrats have made their female Senate candidates a centerpiece of their political strategy in this election, and for months now have relentlessly spun the narrative that 2012 is the “Year of the Woman.”

Just for example, the New York Times reported last year that U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand from New York, who has donated thousands of dollars to female Senate candidates this past year, has also started a campaign called Off the Sidelines that is aimed at increasing the number of female candidates across the country.  In fact, no less an authority than   Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, who heads the Democratic National Committee, told the Times that the Democratic Party stands to benefit from more female candidates, calling Gillibrand’s campaign “significant and important.”

And to be sure, even in races such as Hawaii, where there is a divisive party primary, national Democrats have not been hesitant to rally behind the female candidate in the race.  As one writer for National Journal reported recently in noting that fact, “Democrats believe this crop of candidates, despite many of their outspoken liberal views, is uniquely positioned to drive the income-inequality message that party strategists believe will be pivotal.”

To be sure, Republicans are proud of our female Senate candidates as well and just as we did last cycle with the election of U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte we look forward to bolstering the ranks of women in the U.S. Senate.

But as you move forward with your campaign, I’m sure you will often hear the complaint that there is too much partisanship in Washington.  Our candidates hear this as well.  So in the spirit of bipartisanship, we wanted to share fundraising information that has been useful for other Democratic Senate candidates as well.

Given that virtually every Democratic Senator in Washington has touted their “year of the woman” narrative, we cannot imagine a scenario where they will not be helpful to your campaign.  It’s hard to imagine for example that Senator Gillibrand’s campaign Off The Sidelines campaign has been mere rhetoric or that all of the stories generated by national Democrats on this issue were simply aimed at misleading female voters for political gain.

You may also recall that these same Democrats in Washington vehemently denied a deal was made to not help you or any other Democrat get on the Democratic ballot.  If one were to believe their statements — and that of Angus King who has refused to offer his public support to Harry Reid as Majority Leader — than there is no reason the following Democratic Senators listed below would not write you a check for your campaign, just as they have for your fellow Democratic Senate candidates.

So just for starters, here is a list individuals that should be more than willing to donate their resources and assist your endeavor to be the next U.S. Senator from Maine.

Recommendations

We recommend you begin with Sen. Barbara Boxer who told MSNBC’s Al Sharpton recently that she has launched a campaign to get more women elected to Congress called “Win with Women 2012.”  Sen. Boxer has given more than $35,000 total to several female candidates running for office this cycle including:

·         $5,000 to Mazie Hirono

·         $10,00 to Shelley Berkley

·         $10,000 to Heidi Heitkamp

·         $5,000 to Tammy Baldwin

·         $5,000 to Elizabeth Warren

·         $5,000 to Claire McCaskill

And of course, don’t forget the always helpful Chuck Schumer.  There’s arguably no one more interested in helping Democrats maintain control of the Senate than Senator Schumer.  At a recent Capitol Hill press conference Schumer said thatit makes no sense politically for any political party…to alienate a large chunk of the majority of voters – women” so we’re sure he will also offer his support for your candidacy.  In fact, he’s even devised a scheme attempting to paint Republicans as anti-woman.  Schumer’s been good for:

·         $10,000 to Heidi Heitkamp

·         $10,000 to Tammy Baldwin

·         $10,000 to Mazie Hirono

·         $10,000 to Shelley Berkley.

Next, you should call Majority Leader Harry Reid.  Leader Reid has never been one to shy away from doing whatever it takes to keep his job and so far this cycle, his Leadership PAC donated:

·         $10,000 to Heidi Heitkamp

·         $5,000 to Mazie Hirono

·         $10,000 to Tammy Baldwin

·         $10,000 to Elizabeth Warren

·         $10,000 to Shelley Berkley

·         $10,000 to Sen. Debbie Stabenow

·         $10,000 to Sen. Claire McCaskill.

Next you should call Senator Barbara Mikulski, who recently became the longest serving female member of Congress, and as the Los Angeles Times
