Donnelly’s Vote For ObamaCare Ignited Barack Obama’s War On Personal Freedom

ObamaCare Gave The Federal Government The Power To Decide What’s Best For Hoosiers

Nearly two years ago, Congressman Joe Donnelly supported Barack Obama’s job-killing healthcare bill which gave the federal government the power to decide what type of healthcare services that employers, including religious institutions in Indiana, had to pay for, even if it violated their own personal moral beliefs.

This intrusive healthcare law is a clear violation of religious freedom as it forces religious institutions and individuals to choose between violating the law and violating their faith, which Donnelly continues to support.  His position is completely out of step with the people of Indiana.

“Congressman Joe Donnelly was instrumental in passing ObamaCare, which not only forces every Hoosier to buy health insurance, but also intrudes into their personal freedoms,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Lance Trover.  “When Donnelly had a choice to stand with the people of Indiana or with President Obama and his massive government overreach, he chose President Obama.”

BACKGROUND

Donnelly Announced His Support For The Health Care Bill On March 21, 2010. Donnelly: “From the beginning of this debate, I’ve remained consistent in fighting for the principles I believe should be a part of health insurance reform. We need to prohibit insurance companies from denying coverage to folks who suffer from serious illnesses and we need to extend the life of Medicare. We need to lower the costs of health insurance that are squeezing families and small businesses and we must allow people to keep the insurance they have–if that’s what they want to do.” (Congressman Donnelly Press Release, “Congressman Donnelly Will Support Health Insurance Reform,” 3/21/10)

In 2011, Donnelly Voted Against Repeal Of The Health Care Law. “Passage of the bill that would repeal the 2010 health care overhaul law, which requires most individuals to buy health insurance by 2014, makes changes to government health care programs and sets new requirements for health insurers. The bill would restore the provisions of law amended or repealed by the health care overhaul, and repeal certain provisions of the health care reconciliation law.” (H.R. 2, CQ Vote #14: Passed 245-189: R 242-0; D 3-189, 1/19/11, Donnelly Voted Nay)
