KERREY SAID IT: Liberal Democrat Bob Kerrey Said He Knew His Neighbors Better In New York Than In Nebraska

Kerrey Claims That New Yorkers Are More Friendly Than Nebraskans

After serving in the United States Senate for 12 years, where he assembled a more liberal record than Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid, Bob Kerrey immediately left Washington, not for Nebraska but for New York City.

After living in Greenwich Village for four years, Kerrey proudly proclaimed that the people were nicer in New York and that he knew his Manhattan neighbors better than his former neighbors in Nebraska.

As The Villager reports in 2005:

“[Kerrey] waxed euphoric about the Village neighborhood: ‘Actually, you get to know your neighbors here better than we did in Nebraska. That’s because you walk around a lot, and there are so many shops, and you get to know many of the shopkeepers.’ He does a lot of listening, he says, and he finds the community response to his interests ‘transparent and honest.’” (Ed Gold, “Kerrey Talks On New School’s Future, N.Y.U., Squares,” The Villager, 6/22/05)

“Bob Kerrey’s comment that he knows his neighbors in New York City better than Nebraska further underscores how out of touch he is with Nebraskans, said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox.  “If Kerrey actually took the time to interact with Nebraskans, he would quickly learn that unlike him they support a balanced budget amendment and oppose Barack Obama’s job-killing healthcare law.”
