At the DNC this week, a descendent of Geronimo said that Elizabeth Warren’s claims that she is a Cherokee are purely “a way to advance her career by using false information.” The Geronimo descendant went on to state that Warren’s behavior is “a disgrace” and that “she should have more integrity.”

Since Elizabeth Warren was 37-years-old, she has been claiming to be Cherokee in law directories. When asked to provide proof, Warren touts her “high-cheek-bones.” Because Warren has been unable to offer any substantial proof that she is Native American. What does the fact she stopped claiming minority status in law directories once she settled in her coveted position as a Harvard professor tell us?

Warren’s claims are an insult to those who proudly and rightfully identify with Native American nations.
