NRSC Chairman Moran Statement on Massachusetts Election

Statement from Senator Jerry Moran (KS), Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, on the outcome of tonight’s Massachusetts Special Election to fill John Kerry’s Senate seat:

“My congratulations and thanks to Gabriel Gomez for running an excellent campaign. I am extremely proud the NRSC invested so heavily – and worked so hard – to elect a first generation American, Latino, Navy SEAL and family man to represent Massachusetts in the Senate. Today marks the end of the first mile in the marathon to permanently fill the Massachusetts Senate seat. Gabriel Gomez is well prepared to win that marathon over the next 16 months.

“Gabriel has much to be proud of. He brought much needed energy, fresh perspective, and remarkable enthusiasm to this race. He gave Ed Markey the toughest fight of his 40 year career and forced Democrats and far-left special interest groups to spend millions of dollars and utilize every resource that they had to drag him across the finish line in the most liberal state in the country.

“We’re doing things differently this cycle, and today’s result only strengthens our resolve and commitment to recruit and support excellent candidates in every race. Democrats may have won this round, but it came at a massive cost on friendly turf. The same cannot be said in Louisiana, West Virginia, South Dakota, North Carolina, Arkansas, Montana, Alaska, Michigan, Iowa, and New Hampshire.”
