Washington, D.C. – The National Republican Senatorial Committee is continuing to raise questions about Markey’s residence in Maryland, running promoted Facebook search ads for Democratic candidate Edward John Markey, who “was last seen leaving his home in Chevy Chase, Maryland to campaign for a Senate seat in Massachusetts.”
Ed Markey, a 20 year resident of Chevy Chase, listed his Maryland home as his primary residence until 2002, when he first began thinking of running for John Kerry’s seat in the Senate. He has been a full-time resident and nuisance neighbor in Chevy Chase, Maryland for more than 20 years, but now has revealed that he filed taxes in Massachusetts – even though he most certainly stayed over 183 days in his Maryland home – a number that signifies residency under Maryland Law. (NOTE: The average number of days per year the House has been in session since 1976 is 140 – so Markey’s official duties in Congress fail to meet the 183 days required).
“If Markey has lived in the same Malden home for 64 years, why don’t his neighbors even know he lives on their street?” asked NRSC Press Secretary Book Hougesen. “His neighbors in Chevy Chase know Markey and his wife extremely well. The truth is Markey actually declared Maryland home as his primary residence until he realized that he wanted to replace John Kerry in the Senate. The folks in Chevy Chase, Maryland haven’t seen Mr. Markey away from his home for this long since George H.W. Bush was President, and would like him returned home safely.”
Markey has been a resident of Chevy Chase since 1991 and a Washington Insider since 1976. Anyone with information of his whereabouts should contact the National Republican Senatorial Committee at (202) 675-6000 or www.Facebook.com/NRSC.
