NRSC Response To New Gallup Poll on Health Care

Tue Nov 10 — 8:33pm

NRSC spokeswoman Amber Wilkerson Marchand released the following statement Tuesday afternoon following a report by the Washington Post of a new Gallup poll that shows that 44 percent of Independent voters would tell their Member of Congress not to vote against a health care bill.

"The fact that independent voters do not support the Democrats’ costly government-run health care proposal should serve as a major warning sign for so-called moderate Democrats - such as Blanche Lincoln and Evan Bayh - who remain undecided on the health care legislation and face re-election next year in conservative-leaning states. Last week, independent voters in Virginia and New Jersey proved that they remain the key to winning elections, and the recent Republican victories in these states indicate that independent voters will not hesitate to hold Democrats accountable if they decide to send this contentious legislation to the Senate floor." -

NRSC Response to Senator Dodd's Announcement of a new Regulatory Agency

Tue Nov 10 — 5:58pm

Senator Dodd is attempting to salvage what's left of his political career by proposing a new regulatory agency today. Read detais on his proposal here,  and check out our statement below:

“Despite Chris Dodd’s election-year conversion to populism, he cannot escape the significant role he played in our nation’s current economic crisis. While the housing market was collapsing, Chris Dodd was busy blocking efforts to rein in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, moving to Iowa for his quixotic presidential bid, and receiving a sweetheart mortgage deal from Countrywide Financial as a friend of disgraced Angelo Mozilo.

“After repeatedly putting the priorities of the special interests ahead of consumers and constituents, it’s no wonder Chris Dodd faces some of the lowest approval numbers of any Senate incumbent facing re-election next year. Unfortunately for Senator Dodd, no amount of political posturing will change the fact the Connecticut voters know that they simply cannot trust him to put their interests first.” – Amber Wilkerson Marchand, NRSC spokeswoman

Join The NRSC Health Care Task Force

Mon Nov 09 — 5:31pm

Shortly after the House of Representatives passed the Democrats' $1.1 trillion government takeover of health care, President Obama responded by saying "Now it falls to the Senate to take the baton" on health care reform. What this means is that it is now up to the Senate to either pass or block the socialization of American health care. Senate Republicans and Democrats agree on one thing - America needs health care reform. But we do not believe that reform should take the form of a massive new government bureaucracy that carries more than a trillion dollar price tag.

The NRSC is forming a Health Care Task Force to make sure that your voice is heard in the debate. Sign up to stay informed on the latest issues and what you can do to help as the Senate begins to consider reform.
