Instead of staying in town to work out a solution, or at least debate and vote on multiple proposals, Democrats departed Washington faster then the price of gas has risen. Amazingly, while they are in the majority and setting the agenda, Democrats are obstructing any solutions on energy from consideration.

Frankly Breaking the Rules...Again

Al Franken has a history of breaking the rules, in New York, in California, and in over a dozen other states.

Well now you can add Minnesota to the list. And while not as egregious as neglecting your workers, having your company designated as forfeited or not paying your taxes; the latest flap does continue a pattern of disregard on Franken’s part to the rules he expects everyone to obey.

Recently at the Olmstead County Fair, Franken ignored the rules and was campaigning in off-limit areas. According to the Post-Bulletin:

“The campaigning part, if true, put Franken in violation of a fair board rule forbidding political candidates from campaigning anywhere on Olmsted County Fairgrounds except their assigned area -- in this case, the DFL Party booth.”

But when appraised of his error did Franken quickly comply to remedy the situation? Of course not, the rules don’t apply to Franken.

“Redalen said the offending behavior persisted. So he asked two Olmsted sheriff deputies at the fair to intervene and enforce the rule.”

At least these authorities could find Franken to enforce the rules he was breaking.

But perhaps it is this pattern, in addition to his pornography and despicable humor that has lead to a challenge to Franken’s from his own party.

Collins – his opponent who voted against adjournment – to ask President Bush for special session to address the energy problems facing this country (see below). Allen has trailed by double digits in all credible polling and this week has given voters yet another glimpse of why he has no place in the U.S. Senate.

From yesterday’s PolitickerME.com:

This morning, WGAN radio reported that at a news conference yesterday, "Congressman Tom Allen says (Susan) Collins should lobby President Bush for a special session." Congressman Allen's statement came after reporters questioned why he cast the deciding vote in the House to adjourn for an August recess, instead of staying in session to deal with the high cost of oil and gas. The final vote was 213-212.

Allen’s Vote for Adjournment:

Vote to Adjourn #1 – RCV #537

Vote to Adjourn #2 – RCV #566

Tom Allen may have passed the buck, but he certainly does not pass muster.

New Web Ad: Udall's Day Off

The blockbuster broken promise of the year. In a recent debate, Udall pledged to vote against adjournment until the Democrat led House of Representatives did something to address the energy crisis in this country.

Well the Congressman from Boulder did not vote for adjournment, not against it. He did not vote at all. He arrived too late for the vote.

From the Denver Post:

With gas prices the No. 1 financial worry of voters, promising to try to keep lawmakers in session until they took action was a bold stroke, but missing that vote could be an equally costly political mistake by the five-term congressman.

Udall's staff said the Democrat stayed in Colorado to attend several campaign-related events, including a meeting with business leaders and a fundraising event...
Udall's office and campaign are trying, in typical Democrat fashion, to pass the buck to his liberal leadership for not holding the vote open longer.

But, the reality is that Udall could have arrived on time for the vote. Instead, Udall chose to ignore his taxpayer funded job to raise money for his floundering campaign. Leaving one to wonder what other misplaced priorities does the Boulder Liberal possess.

You can watch Udall make the promise he's already broken Denver's KDVR this Sunday at 10 pm (MT).

New Web Ad: The Real Facts On Mark Udall

Boulder Liberal Mark Udall is defensive about his taxing record. Falling further behind in the polls. Now his adopted party is beginning to admit the many flaws of the failed radio host.

Recently, DFL State Senator Tom Bakk had this to say about the Senate race in the state:

“’He’s [Al Franken] going to have a tough road ahead of him. I think (Republican U.S. Sen.) Norm Coleman’s done a pretty good job. Coleman will be hard to beat. I also don’t think there was enough adequate researching of Franken’s past done by the party. Some of the stuff is pretty troubling,’ Bakk said. He was referring to Franken’s tax problems, including non-payment of worker’s compensation taxes for several years until it was brought to his attention by New York State officials, and also past Saturday Night Live sketches, a Playboy article and Air America comments that degraded women and even made a joke of rape.

This echoes Jennifer Duffy of the Cook Political Report discussing Franken's chances:

“Franken has come under fire for a number of things: for failing to pay taxes, for failing to carry workmen’s compensation insurance, for a Playboy article he wrote in 2000, which angered some Democratic women in the state, including Betty McCollum. So you’re seeing the drip, drip, drip that Republicans have always talked about here and promises of more to come. I’m not sure how Franken gets out from under this.”

Everyday it looks more and more likely Franken will add failed Senate candidate to his resume.

"Is The Ad Accurate? A recent Quinnipiac poll shows Norm Coleman pulling away from failed radio host Al Franken while former Rep. Bob Schaffer is closing the gap on Rep. Mark Udall.

Two of the states in the battleground surveys -- Minnesota and Colorado -- are also playing host to high profile Senate races. In each, the news is good for Republicans.

In Minnesota, Sen. Norm Coleman has built a 53 percent to 38 percent edge over entertainer Al Franken ¿ thanks in no small part to a series of gaffes by the former "Saturday Night Live" star. In Colorado, former Rep. Bob Schaffer (R) has pulled into a dead heat with Rep. Mark Udall (D), an affirmation of Republicans' insistence that the contest will be among the closest in the country.

But perhaps more damning for Begich is his party affiliation.

You see, Begich is a Democrat hoping Alaskans believe he will be willing or able to stand-up to his puppet-masters, the Democrat leadership, if he is elected.

As the Voice of the Times puts it:

Open ANWR for exploration and development? Oh, no, say the same Democratic leaders and their colleagues whose campaigns rely on dollars from environmental lobbies. Oh, no, says no less an authority than former Vice President Al Gore, the wannabe president who won a Nobel prize for his preaching about global warming.

Democrats have a history of being on the wrong side of energy independence and other issues important to Alaskans. So does Mark Begich really think people will believe him when he claims he will put Alaska first?

During his tenure Jim Slattery voted for President Clinton's 1993 tax hike - at the time the largest tax increase in American history. He also voted to grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants - "largest legalization of illegal immigrants in history."

So when he did vote Slattery went all out. Unfortunately for Kansans Slattery did not always show-up to fulfill his job - missing more votes than 99% of all Members his last year in office.
