Incumbent Democratic Senator Bill Nelson is running for re-election to a third term

Republican Candidates

Connie Mack IV – Current U.S. Representative for Florida’s 15th congressional district. First elected to the position in 2004, winning re-elections in 2006, 2008, and 2010 with an average of 64% of votes. Currently serves on the Foreign Affairs Committee, acting as Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, in addition to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

George Lemieux –  Former United States Senator from Florida from September 2009 to January 2011, as well as former Chief of Staff to Governor Charlie Crist and former Deputy Florida Attorney General. While serving in the Senate, Lemieux was recognized by the National Taxpayer Union with a 93% rating for his record on pro-business and tax reform.

Democratic Candidates

Bill Nelson –  Currently serves as the senior United States Senator from Florida. In 1990 Nelson ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for Governor of Florida. In 1994 Nelson announced he would run for the office of Treasurer and Insurance Commissioner, yet despit  his presence in Florida politics since 1972 he narrowly won by a vote of 52%. In March 2010, he voted in favor of Obama Care, even though a Mason-Dixon Florida poll indicated that the measure was opposed by a majority of those surveyed, and by nearly two-thirds of Florida voters aged 65 or older.
