Republican Presidential Roundtable

Early in 1987, faced with a newly-elected Democrat-controlled Senate, President Ronald Reagan founded the Republican Presidential Roundtable. He sought not only to restore a Republican Senate Majority, but to create a unique forum in American politics, which brings together the most prominent business and civic leaders. President Reagan wanted to enlist their greater involvement in our party and country.

Now, twenty years later, Ronald Reagan's vision and the dedicated efforts of the Presidential Roundtable have produced Republican Senate majorities in four consecutive elections. But the job is far from finished. We are determined to reclaim the Senate Majority.

Republican Presidential Roundtable Co-Chairman

Senator Saxby Chambliss
Senator Jim DeMint
Senator Kit Bond
Senator Johnny Isakson

Senator Jim DeMint

Since his first campaign for Congress in 1998, Jim DeMint has proven to be a principled leader that has fought to secure

Elected as South Carolina's 55th senator in 2004, DeMint quickly established himself as one of the most effective conservative leaders in Washington, seeking to enact innovative solutions to improve for future generations. He has been a tireless advocate for smaller government, individual liberty, a strong national defense and traditional values.

DeMint has earned national acclaim for his work to end the system of earmarks, also referred to as the "congressional favor factory." Following the November elections in 2006, the senator stood up against big spenders in Congress and stopped over 10,000 wasteful pork projects. Famed Washington journalist Robert Novak called him a "hero." Wall Street Journal editor Steve Moore said the senator's actions saved Americans about $17 billion and called him the "taxpayers' greatest ally." Earlier this year, DeMint also fought for commonsense immigration reform by leading the effort to defeat the amnesty bill and calling on government to first secure our borders, enforce the laws already passed, and streamline the legal immigration system.

In late 2006, he was elected as chairman of the Senate Steering Committee, which is comprised of the majority of Republican senators and works to advance conservative legislation. This year, just as Ronald Reagan had done 23 years earlier, DeMint delivered the keynote address to the nation's largest gathering of conservative activists at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).He was recently ranked as the Senate's most conservative member by National Journal and as the No. 1 senator voting for responsible tax and spending policies by the National Taxpayer Union. DeMint is a man who understands the greatness of is found in its people and values, not in its government institutions.

The senator and his wife, Debbie, reside in Greenville, South Carolina and are the proud parents of four children.

Senator Johnny Isakson

Johnny Isakson is a businessman, a public servant and family man whose common-sense approach and conservative values have made him a leader in Georgia for over 30 years.

Johnny began his business career in 1967 when he opened the first Cobb County office of a small, family-owned real estate business, Northside Realty. Johnny later served as president of Northside for 20 years, presiding over the company's growth into the largest independent residential real estate brokerage company in the Southeast and one of the largest in America.

Johnny entered Georgia Republican politics in 1974 and served 17 years in the Georgia Legislature and three years as Chairman of the Georgia Board of Education. In 1999, Johnny was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for the first of three terms before being elected to the United States Senate in November of 2004.

In Washington, Johnny has proven to be a leader who gets results. Johnny helped pass the President's 2001 tax relief package, the largest tax cut in a generation, and is committed to making it permanent. He has worked to strengthen our Armed Forces, and continues to show unwavering commitment to the men and women who serve our country. Johnny was an original author of the President's No Child Left Behind Act, the most significant improvement to our education system in a generation. He has worked to enhance and maintain Georgia's roads, while also working for mass transit alternatives to reduce congestion and improve air quality. And he continues to push for immigration reform that is built on a foundation of securing our borders first.

Johnny is a 1966 graduate of the University of Georgia and he served in the Georgia Air National Guard from 1966 to 1972. Johnny and his wife, Dianne, have three children and seven grandchildren. Johnny and Dianne have been married 39 years, and they attend Mount Zion United Methodist Church, where Johnny taught sixth grade Sunday School for 30 years.
