Cornyn Statement On The Appointment Of Rep. Dean Heller To The U.S. Senate

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, today made the following statement regarding Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval’s announcement that he intends to appoint U.S. Rep. Dean Heller (R-NV) to the United States Senate: “I congratulate Congressman Heller and look forward to welcoming him to the U.S. Senate. At this time of economic uncertainty, it is critical that we have common-sense, fiscally-responsible leaders like Dean Heller in Washington; leaders who are focused on creating real economic growth by supporting a balanced budget and reining in reckless Washington spending. “Dean’s Democratic opponents have embraced Harry Reid’s failed, big government policies, and if elected they will continue to steer our country on a downward path of fewer jobs, more spending and a record debt. Next year’s election is critical, and in the months ahead, voters throughout Nevada will see firsthand why Dean Heller is the right leader, at…

Manchin Stands with Obama-Reid In Washington, While Offering More Rhetoric On Spending in West Virginia

In a move leaked ahead of time to reporters in Washington this morning, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) will reportedly give a speech in West Virginia later today in which he will endorse the “CAP Act,” sponsored by Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) and Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), as well as voice his support for a balanced budget amendment. In response to this latest round of political maneuvering from Senator Manchin, who faces re-election next year, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) made the following statement: “Senator Manchin has already had several opportunities to show he is serious about reining-in spending and controlling the size and scope of government, and instead, he rubber-stamped the President’s $787 billion stimulus boondoggle and voted in support of ObamaCare. “What’s more, Senator Manchin knows full well that the proposals he is endorsing today have zero chance of becoming law because they are being blocked…

Out-Of-Touch Kaine Blames Rhetoric, Not Spending, For Country’s $14.3 Trillion Debt Crisis

In yet another reminder that he stands with President Obama and the liberal wing of the Democrat party in Washington, former DNC Chairman and current Democrat Senate candidate Tim Kaine (D-VA) is blaming “irresponsible rhetoric” – as opposed to Washington’s reckless spending and record $14.3 trillion debt – for Standard and Poor’s announcement that they may downgrade the U.S. Government’s AAA credit rating. As the Daily Progress reports today, “Kaine said he thinks irresponsible rhetoric in Washington may have impacted the S&P decision. ‘I frankly think one of the reasons they’ve downgraded it is they see people in Washington throwing around, “We’re going to shut down the government,’’’ Kaine said. ‘That kind of language, you can use it for political gain, but it has real consequences.’” Notably, Kaine’s decision to attribute our country’s debt crisis to “irresponsible rhetoric” comes just weeks after his predecessor as DNC Chairman, Howard Dean, said…

After Cutting Medicare By $500 Billion Last Year, Berkley Calls It “Sacrosanct” This Year

Just over one year after she helped ram through Harry Reid’s massive health care bill that cuts Medicare by $500 billion in order to expand government control over health care, U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-NV) is now singing a different tune on the campaign trail. In an interview with the Associated Press this week, Berkley said Medicare is “sacrosanct” and nothing, even the need for fiscal discipline, should be done “on the backs of our most vulnerable citizens.” “It’s remarkable that as Shelley Berkley tries to scare Nevada seniors, she had absolutely no problem standing side-by-side with Harry Reid and voting to expand the size and scope of the federal government on their backs just last year,” National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Chris Bond said today. “What’s more, while Republicans are trying to reform Medicare in order to save it for future generations, the only plan for Medicare that…

While Failing To Create Jobs, Nelson’s Stimulus Buys Superhero Capes For Jobless Floridians

With Florida’s unemployment rate still among the highest in the nation at 11.1 percent, new events continue to highlight the fiasco of liberal U.S. Senator Bill Nelson’s (D-FL) $787 billion stimulus spending debacle, which has failed to create promised jobs while driving our national debt past a record $14.3 trillion. The Orlando Sentinel reports on a federally-funded organization that has received nearly $14 million via Nelson’s failed stimulus law: Dubbed the “Cape-A-Bility Challenge,” a $73,000 public-relations campaign by Workforce Central Florida features a cartoon character named “Dr. Evil Unemployment” and includes handing out about 6,000 red superhero capes to jobless Central Floridians. The campaign, revealed Saturday in a report in the Orlando Sentinel, was met with derision by many unemployed who questioned spending more than $14,200 on capes and $2,300 on foam cutouts of “Dr. Evil Unemployment.” They said the campaign’s tone risked minimizing the severity of the region’s labor…

After Cheerleading The Democrats’ Costly Agenda, Kaine Skips Obama Town Hall In Virginia

Treasury Announces National Debt Now Tops Record $14.3 Trillion In yet another attempt to distance himself from the same costly partisan agenda he has spent the last several years cheerleading in Washington, former DNC Chairman and Democrat Senate candidate Tim Kaine (D-VA) was conspicuously absent today as President Barack Obama traveled to Northern Virginia Community College to host a town hall-style meeting to promote the Democrats’ agenda of reckless spending and higher taxes.  As the Washington Post reported this morning, “[w]hen President Obama crosses the Potomac into Virginia Tuesday morning to talk about reining in the nation’s escalating debt, which Democrats will be standing with him? Not Tim Kaine. Word is the former governor, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee chairman and friend of the president will be campaigning for U.S. Senate — but in another part of the state.” From the time his fellow Washington party bosses twisted…

McCaskill Reminds Voters She Cheated Local Schools By Failing To Pay Taxes On Private Plane

Closes Events To “General Public,” Hand-Picks Participants As liberal U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) travels Missouri this week touting herself as a champion of education, voters are reminded that she personally cheated local schools out of a reported $176,000 when she failed to pay taxes on her private plane, while at the same time billing taxpayers for travel on that aircraft. As the Associated Press reported yesterday: …McCaskill is launching a 15-town tour around Missouri this week to meet with parents, teachers, students and school administrators about potential changes to the federal education law… McCaskill also plans to hold education events Tuesday in Lebanon, Springfield, Nixa and Willard; Wednesday in Boonville, Fayette and Hardin; and Thursday in Independence, Kansas City, Liberty and Platte City. But as the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported just weeks ago, “[t]he Rockwood School District may receive about $176,000 from what U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., pays…

NRSC Congratulates Berkley For Showing Up To Work Today…

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) today issued a hearty congratulations to liberal U.S. Representative Shelley Berkley (D-NV) for showing up to work today, as the House of Representatives held a major vote on the budget. Berkley’s decision to come to work today stands in stark contrast to her behavior just one week ago, when – with the U.S. government on the brink of shutting down and lawmakers in both parties hard at work in advance of the midnight deadline – Berkley was nowhere to be found, failing to participate either in that afternoon’s votes, one of which concerned a key net neutrality issue, or during the late-night vote to keep the federal government open. Ironically, in the wake of her failure to participate in last Friday’s key vote to keep the federal government open, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Berkley is staking her fledgling Senate campaign on what…

West Virginia Pro-Life Groups Accuse Manchin Of “Playing Politics”

After his vote yesterday in support of federal funding for Planned Parenthood, Joe Manchin is quickly feeling the fallout in West Virginia. As a candidate for Senate last year, Manchin was endorsed by West Virginians for Life after assuring them that he was opposed to ObamaCare, and particularly any pro-abortion provisions included in the bill. But despite Manchin’s best efforts to provide himself political cover by introducing transparency legislation before siding with Planned Parenthood yesterday, it appears pro-life groups in West Virginia are having none of it, casting serious doubt whether he will have their support again when he’s back on the ballot next year. Here’s a sampling…. From the Beckley Register-Herald: · In Morgantown, West Virginians for Life’s communications director, Mary Anne Buchanan, said the Manchin proposal wouldn’t do anything. “The bill that Sen. Manchin wants to put forth really is irrelevant,” she said. “It’s just a cover. We…

Casey’s Misleading EPA Rhetoric

I wanted to draw your attention to the below piece in PoliticsPA. It seems that liberal U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) is eager to tout his vote to kill an amendment that would have stopped the Obama Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) job-killing backdoor energy tax and saved Pennsylvania jobs. As his office enthusiastically points out below, Casey instead voted for a much weaker amendment by the Senate’s most liberal member, Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), which the Wall Street Journal accurately called a “phony” alternative designed to provide political cover, both before and after it received a paltry seven votes. Casey was one of 13 Democrat Senators to oppose the McConnell amendment but vote for one of the three alternatives Democrats proposed to provide political cover, none of which came even close to passage. As the Journal also noted on Monday, “[t]he McConnell proposal received 50 votes, so it would have reached…
