The Probe Into Manchin’s Adminstration Heats Up

In West Virginia, the Huntington News reports that “the heat has just been turned up several degrees higher on the Manchin Administration, with new federal subpoenas being issued on Monday.” This time, published reports indicate that federal subpoenas were issued to the state Aviation Division Director, Keith Wood, and for records kept by the Aviation Division, including flight records.  Governor Manchin’s office has confirmed the new subpoenas. Meanwhile, the Huntington News editorial board writes: When a Governor’s Administration is being investigated for months by federal prosecutors, it usually means serious trouble. People are oftentimes indicted. High government officials are disgraced, as is the state itself.   In short, we don’t deserve this. We elect high government officials, give them decent salaries and benefits, along with the pleasures of public service. And time after time, they abuse our trust for personal benefits of some sort.

Blumenthal Faces Criticism Over Misinformation Regarding His Campaign’s Funding

In Connecticut, the Connecticut Mirror reports on perpetual liar Dick Blumenthal’s latest misinformation regarding his campaign’s funding: Today, the Republican State Party filed a new federal election complaint against Democrat Richard Blumenthal’s campaign. The document alleges that Blumenthal has “illegally funneled outside money” into his campaign coffers. Blumenthal has loaned his campaign $2.25 million so far this election cycle. But as the GOP notes, he filed a financial disclosure form reporting assets of between $599,000 and $1.36 million. Blumenthal’s wife Cynthia is much wealthier, listing assets of between $55 million to $107 million. But she is limited, like any other donor, to giving $4,800 to her husband’s campaign. “This raises only two possibilities: Dick Blumenthal lied on his financial disclosure to the U.S. Senate or he has funded his campaign illegally,” the GOP alleges. Blumenthal’s campaign dismissed the charges, noting that the disclosure forms do not require candidates to list all of…

Reid “Has Become the Symbol of a Potential Democratic Collapse in Washington”

In Nevada, the New York Times’ Adam Nagourney traveled to Harry Reid’s hometown and reports that the embattled Senate Majority Leader “has become the symbol of a potential Democratic collapse in Washington, as polarizing a figure as exists in American politics.” [N]eighbor or not — and “bring home the bacon” benefactor or not — Mr. Reid has become as contentious a figure in Searchlight as he is in the rest of the state.
