Incumbent Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown is running for re-election to a second term.

Republican Candidates

Josh Mandel –  In 2010, Mandel was elected Ohio State Treasurer, when he defeated incumbent Kevin Boyce with 55% of the vote. It was the first time since 1958 that an incumbent Ohio State Treasurer was defeated in a bid for reelection. Previously Mandel had served in the Ohio House of Representatives, where he was first elected to the position in November 2006. He was re-elected in 2008 to serve Ohio’s 17th district, but served only one year because of his election to the Ohio State Treasurer position.

Democratic Candidates

Sherrod Brown – Brown began his political career in 1974 when he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives, a position he held until 1982. In 1982 Brown was elected to the office of Ohio Secretary of State, where he was re-elected in 1986 but defeated in 1990. In 1992, Brown along with his family moved from Mansfield to Lorain, Ohio in order to run for the open seat in Ohio’s 13thdistrict. In 2006 Brown won the election for United States Senator defeating two-term incumbent Mike DeWine. Recently, Brown was a co-sponsor of Protect-IP act (PIPA), which was soundly rejected by the American public. In 2011, the National Journal named Brown among the most liberal members in Congress.
