Questions Swirl Around Potential Quid Pro Quo For Sestak

And more questions being raised about the White House in the face of repeated allegations by Pennsylvania Democrat Senate Joe Sestak that he was offered a job by the Obama W.H. if he would agree not to run for the Senate against Arlen Specter; allegations, which CNS News noted recently, W.H. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs has continued to dodge on camera over the last few weeks.   Now Politico reports this morning that the top Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee says the Obama administration may have broken the law by offering Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) a job in order to persuade him not to mount a primary challenge against Sen. Arlen Specter.  "While the White House may think this is politics as usual, what is spectacularly unusual is when a candidate — a U.S. congressman no less — freely acknowledges such a proposal,” Issa wrote. “Almost always candidates keep quiet about such deals, and for good reason — they are against the law."

  • In case you missed it, Congressman Sestak reiterated this charge in an interview with Fox News’ Brett Baier yesterday.  Click here to watch
  • And while the White House continues to dodge this serious allegation, Arlen Specter told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell on Tuesday that Sestak needs to step forward and “name names.”  Also note, that Specter echoes Rep. Issa’s point that if this allegation is true, someone at the White House broke the law.  Click here to watch.
  • FLASHBACK – Sestak isn’t the only Democrat candidate who has made this charge against the White House.  Last fall, Colorado Democrat Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff also said that he was offered a job by the Obama White House if he would not challenge incumbent Democrat Senator Michael Bennet.  Click here to read that report
