In fact, since Obama took office in January of 2009, the jobs participation rate has consistently declined, from 65.7% to 63.5%.

The August jobs report was released this morning with several disappointing factors. First, only 96,000 jobs were added. Second, the unemployment rate fell slightly, but that is only because many people have given up looking for a job. The market for jobs has become so grim, people have quit looking altogether.

In fact, since Obama took office in January of 2009, the jobs participation rate has consistently declined, from 65.7% to 63.5%. This rate is even lower than when Jimmy Carter failed to be reelected to a second term as President in 1981 (63.9%).

Obama and Carter have other similarities, too. Both Presidents have struggled enormously with gas prices, more than any other presidents. Under Obama, gas prices have increased 103.79%, and with Carter they increased 103.77%.

Looking at the jobs participation number and gas price increases, it could be argued that Obama is an even worse economic leader than Carter. For those keeping count, it has been 1,227 days without a Democratic-led budget has been passed in the Senate, and 234 days since Obama has even met with his jobs council.

Obama’s Presidency may continue to mirror Carter’s to the end if the unemployment rate doesn’t dip below 8%. No President since the Great Depression has been reelected with numbers like this. Hey, Obama said himself that if the economy hasn’t turned around in three years, his presidency will be “a one-term proposition.” Watch the similarities between the two below:

As USA Today reports:

As gas prices hover near $4 a gallon, nearly seven in 10 Americans say the high cost of fuel is causing financial hardship for their families, a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds. More than half say they have made major changes to compensate for the higher prices, ranging from shorter trips to cutting back on vacation travel. For 21%, the impact is so dramatic they say their standard of living is jeopardized. Nationally, the price of a gallon of regular gasoline averages $3.96. That’s up 38%, or $1.09, from levels a year ago. In seven states, gas prices have passed July 2008′s record of $4.11 a gallon.

But instead of working to expand domestic production and lower fuel costs for Ohio’s families and job creators, Brown and the liberal wing of the Democrat Party are working to raise energy taxes – a reckless move that the non-partisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) reports would “make oil and natural gas more expensive for U.S. consumers and likely increase foreign dependence.”

“With the vast majority of Ohio’s families suffering ‘financial hardship’ thanks to $4-a-gallon gas, why is Sherrod Brown working to drive energy costs even higher with his proposed tax hikes?” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox. “Yet again, Brown’s liberal Washington agenda has put him in direct conflict with the interests of Ohio families and small businesses.”

But instead of working to expand domestic production and lower fuel costs for West Virginia families and job creators, Manchin, Obama, and the liberal wing of the Washington Democrat Party are working to raise energy taxes – a reckless move that the non-partisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) reports would “make oil and natural gas more expensive for U.S. consumers and likely increase foreign dependence.”

“With the vast majority of West Virginia’s families suffering ‘financial hardship’ thanks to $4-a-gallon gas, why is Joe Manchin siding with President Obama to drive energy costs even higher with these proposed tax hikes?” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Chris Bond. “Yet again, Manchin and Obama’s liberal Washington agenda has put them in direct conflict with the interests of West Virginia families and small businesses.”

While his fellow Washington liberals claim that near-record-high gas prices are “not the issue,” even several Senate Democrats have called Manchin and Obama’s proposal “laughable,” and have made clear that the tax hikes will “cost thousands of jobs” and “increase our dependency on foreign oil.”

Sadly, this is not the first time Joe Manchin has displayed his enthusiasm for tax hikes and high gas prices: as Governor, Manchin proposed and signed a bill requiring electric companies to curb coal use by 25 percent, a similar requirement to the federal cap-and-trade bill. In Washington, Manchin has dependably supported President Obama’s efforts to raise income tax rates, and has continued to support ObamaCare, which raises taxes by $570 billion.

But instead of working to expand domestic production and lower fuel costs for Missouri’s families and job creators, McCaskill is working with the liberal wing of the Democrat Party to raise energy taxes – a reckless move that the non-partisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) reports would “make oil and natural gas more expensive for U.S. consumers and likely increase foreign dependence.”

“With the vast majority of Missouri families suffering ‘financial hardship’ thanks to $4-a-gallon gas, why is Claire McCaskill working to drive energy costs even higher with her proposed tax hikes?” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Chris Bond. “Yet again, McCaskill’s liberal Washington agenda has put her in direct conflict with the interests of Missouri families and small businesses.”

While her fellow Washington liberals claim that near-record-high gas prices are “not the issue,” McCaskill herself does not deny that her proposed tax hikes will result in higher energy costs for Missouri families and small businesses. Meanwhile, even several of McCaskill’s fellow Senate Democrats have called her proposal “laughable,” and have made clear that her tax hikes will “cost thousands of jobs” and “increase our dependency on foreign oil.”

Sadly, this is not the first time Claire McCaskill has displayed her enthusiasm for energy tax hikes and high gas prices: McCaskill has expressed her support for a job-killing cap-and-trade energy tax, and recently said “the good news is our emissions are way down because of the recession.”

Notably, McCaskill’s tax-hiking, energy-price-increasing agenda stands in marked contrast to her fellow Missouri U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO), who strongly opposes raising energy taxes and is working to expand domestic energy production.

Earlier today, liberal U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) appeared on Fox News to discuss her proposal to raise energy taxes while Missourians struggle with nearly $4-a-gallon gas. I wanted to draw your attention to McCaskill’s comments when presented with the simple fact that if she and President Obama succeed in raising taxes, energy producers will simply “pass the price on to us at the pump some day.”

Notably, McCaskill does not deny that her tax hikes will result in higher prices for Missouri families at the pump and in their home energy bills. Instead, McCaskill attempts to justify her multi-billion-dollar tax hikes by claiming that at least they aren’t as large or far reaching as they could be – saying “it’s $2 billion a year [in tax hikes], it’s not $4 billion a year,” and “keep in mind, we are only doing the five biggest [energy companies], not the small independents.”

CLICK THE SCREENSHOT BELOW TO SEE SEN. McCASKILL ATTEMPT TO JUSTIFY HER ENERGY TAX HIKES

Of course, despite McCaskill’s attempts to justify her massive tax hikes, there is growing bipartisan consensus that not only will her proposal raise gas and home energy costs for Missouri families, she would also make our country more dependent on foreign energy. As the non-partisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) reports, McCaskill and Obama’s energy tax hikes “would make oil and natural gas more expensive for U.S. consumers and likely increase foreign dependence.” Meanwhile, even McCaskill’s fellow Washington Democrats admit that energy tax hikes will “cost thousands of jobs” and “increase our dependency on foreign oil.”

In reporting on Senator McCaskill’s attempts to burden Missouri families with higher energy taxes, please consider the following statement from the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC)”

“Despite her well-documented habit of billing taxpayers to fuel her private plane, it seems that Senator McCaskill remains oblivious to high energy costs. It’s unbelievable that McCaskill is trying to raise energy taxes on Missouri’s families and businesses while they struggle with $4-a-gallon gas. But then again, this is the same Claire McCaskill who continues to support President Obama’s proposed income tax hikes, and who provided the crucial 60th vote to ram ObamaCare’s $570 billion in tax hikes into law.” – Chris Bond, NRSC Press Secretary
