Brown voted for the failed economic stimulus and rammed the Healthcare Bill through Congress that costs taxpayers $1.76 trillion and cut $21 billion from Ohio seniors who depend on Medicare. Brown’s liberal policies have been running Ohio into the ground since the day he took office. Ohio needs leadership that will address the economic difficulties of the state, not liberal tax-and-spend mentality.

WASHINGTON — When Sherrod Brown first came to Washington in January 1993, the federal debt stood at $4.2 trillion. 18 years later, and particularly over the last three years, as Sherrod Brown has rubber-stamped every major spending initiative proposed by President Obama, the federal debt has now hit the once-unfathomable mark of $15 trillion – a 257 percent increase and more than $48,000 for every American man, woman and child.

To mark the United States Treasury reaching the $15 trillion debt mark today and to highlight the massive spending by Senator Brown and President Obama that has led to this point, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) released a new web video – “$15,000,000,000,000…Siriously”

“As a candidate for the Senate in 2006, Sherrod Brown talked about the importance of fiscal responsibility, but since coming to the Senate he and his fellow Democrats have used the federal treasury like their own personal credit card,” NRSC spokesman Jahan Wilcox said today. “As he prepares to face Ohio voters next year, Senator Brown will have to explain why he’s rubberstamped President Obama’s reckless spending agenda, including his failed stimulus and government health care bill, instead of focusing on creating jobs and growing our economy.”

BACKGROUND….

THE NATIONAL DEBT HAS HIT THE $15 TRILLION MARK

The National Debt Is Now $15.0 Trillion Dollars. (US Department Of The Treasury, TreasuryDirect.gov, Accessed 11/16/11)

Since President Obama Took Office And Senate Democrats Rubberstamped His Spending Agenda, The National Debt Has Risen $4.4 Trillion, An Increase Of Over 41 Percent. (US Department Of The Treasury, TreasuryDirect.gov, Accessed 11/16/11)

Once Again, Loyally Stands Behind Obama, Instead Of Standing Up For Ohio

WASHINGTON — In a series of votes that once again defined his Senate career as a reliable rubber-stamp for President Obama, Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) last night voted to impose a permanent new tax on Ohio business owners to pay for another temporary stimulus bill, while also blocking a Republican effort to ensure captured terrorists are not offered the same rights as common criminals. And he did this all within a one-hour period of time.

“Sherrod Brown might attempt to cast himself as fiscally responsible in Ohio, but he votes like a typical tax-and-spend, big government liberal when he’s back in Washington,” National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox said today. “This vote defined a clear difference in next year’s Senate race – Brown believes it’s the federal government that creates jobs with higher taxes and more spending, while Republicans believe it’s time for Democrats in Washington to get their boots off the backs of America’s small businesses.”

Brown voted in support of Obama’s latest stimulus bill despite concerns raised by a coalition of business groups, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Businesses, who noted that 80% of those impacted by the Democrats’ new tax are business owners and it would have a negative impact on investment income to grow businesses and create jobs. Democrats also reversed their own positions, including President Obama, who said in 2009 that the last thing Congress should do is raise taxes in a recession.

In a separate vote last night, Brown also stood with his liberal leaders in blocking a Republican effort, sponsored by U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) to ensure that captured terrorists are not offered the same due process rights as common criminals. As the Washington Post reported, the Democrats’ vote to kill this measure handed “a victory” to President Obama.

“Once again, Sherrod Brown stood behind President Obama, instead of standing up for Ohio voters who believe captured terrorists should be treated like enemy combatants instead of common criminals. This is the liberal mindset at its worst, but Sherrod Brown apparently believes that captured terrorists should be treated nicely,” Wilcox concluded.

FLASHBACK….

Sherrod Brown Predicted The Stimulus Would Create As Many As 133,000 Jobs In Ohio. Brown: “Ohio will receive more than $8 billion to help create as many as 133,000 Ohio jobs.” (Senator Sherrod Brown Website, www.brown.senate.gov, Accessed 1/26/11)

· Reality: 2.2 Million Jobs Have Been Lost Since Obama Took Office. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, Accessed 10/7/11)

For 21%, the impact is so dramatic they say their standard of living is jeopardized. Nationally, the price of a gallon of regular gasoline averages $3.96. That’s up 38%, or $1.09, from levels a year ago. In seven states, gas prices have passed July 2008′s record of $4.11 a gallon.

But instead of working to expand domestic production and lower fuel costs for Ohio’s families and job creators, Brown and the liberal wing of the Democrat Party are working to raise energy taxes – a reckless move that the non-partisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) reports would “make oil and natural gas more expensive for U.S. consumers and likely increase foreign dependence.”

“With the vast majority of Ohio’s families suffering ‘financial hardship’ thanks to $4-a-gallon gas, why is Sherrod Brown working to drive energy costs even higher with his proposed tax hikes?” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox. “Yet again, Brown’s liberal Washington agenda has put him in direct conflict with the interests of Ohio families and small businesses.”
