Shelley Berkley’s Economic Record At A Glance

In yet another reminder that Las Vegas Congresswoman Shelley Berkley’s $787 billion stimulus failed to create jobs while driving our national debt past $14.3 trillion, the U.S. Department of Labor reports today that the national unemployment has risen again to 9.2 percent. When the stimulus was passed, Ms. Berkley promised it would create “millions of new jobs” and keep national unemployment below 8 percent.  Since the stimulus was passed the United States has actually lost more than 1.9 million jobs and the national unemployment has remained above 8 percent now for 29 consecutive months. “These sobering numbers serve as yet another reminder that Nevada simply can’t afford six years of Shelley Berkley or Byron Georgiou’s liberal tax-and-spend agenda,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox.  What They’re Saying About Today’s Jobs Report…. White House Economists: Obama-Reid-Berkley Stimulus Cost Taxpayers $278,000 Per Job

Obama’s Top Economists Reveal Hefty Price Tag For Failed Stimulus Debacle Since Las Vegas Congresswoman Shelley Berkley helped President Barack Obama ram his $787 billion stimulus into law, America has lost nearly 1.9 million jobs and our national debt has skyrocketed to a record-high $14.3 trillion.  Now, President Obama’s own top economists estimate that the Obama-Reid-Berkley stimulus debacle cost taxpayers an average $278,000 per job. As the Weekly Standard notes: “The report was written by the White House’s Council of Economic Advisors, a group of three economists who were all handpicked by Obama, and it chronicles the alleged success of the “stimulus” in adding or saving jobs. The council reports that, using “mainstream estimates of economic multipliers for the effects of fiscal stimulus” (which it describes as a “natural way to estimate the effects of” the legislation), the “stimulus” has added or saved just under 2.4 million jobs — whether…

Why Doesn’t Shelley Berkley Agree With Her Colleague That More Spending & Tax Hikes Should Be Off The Table?

Again Stands With Reid, Obama And The Left Wing Of Democrat Party With our national debt already topping a record $14.3 trillion, Las Vegas Congresswoman Shelley Berkley is standing with her liberal mentor Harry Reid as they continue to put crucial debt negotiations at risk with their insistence on more wasteful spending and job-killing tax hikes. Meanwhile, even some of Berkley’s fellow Democrats are beginning to join Republican calls to take these harmful proposals off the table, including U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV). As Politico reports: “Manchin, who is a top GOP target in next year’s elections, has said he will not vote to raise the debt ceiling without spending reforms, and sides with the Republicans on keeping tax raises off the table.  ‘I don’t believe in tax hikes,’ Manchin said. ‘We have to start living within our means in this country.’” “At a time when our debt has skyrocketed…

Why Won’t Shelley Berkley Ask That Tax Increases & More Spending Be Off The Table For Debt Hike Talks?

Talks Frayed Over Democrats’ Insistence That Both Be Part Of The Final Deal With America’s debt now skyrocketing past $14.3 trillion, negotiations on Capitol Hill to increase the debt limit by another $2 trillion are currently stalled over Democrats’ insistence that tax increases and new “stimulus” spending be part of any final package, instead of the important reform measures that non-partisan experts say are needed to prevent Medicare from going bankrupt. But apparently Las Vegas Congresswoman Shelley Berkley is too busy focusing on her Democrat primary battle against Byron Georgiou to weigh in. “America is on the brink of an economic crisis of historic proportions and yet Las Vegas Congresswoman Shelley Berkley and her liberal mentor Harry Reid are insisting on job-killing tax hikes and even more ‘stimulus spending,’” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox today.  “Nevadans know that the problem with Washington isn’t that our government…

Medicare Trustees: Shelley Berkley’s Plan Will “Bankrupt” Medicare, Cut Benefits, “End Medicare As We Know It”

As she attempts to distract voters from her decision to cut Medicare by $500 billion in order to fund ObamaCare, Las Vegas Congresswoman Shelley Berkley and her Washington Democrat allies have been busy trying to scare Nevada seniors and demagogue the crucial issue of Medicare. But in a U.S. House of Representatives hearing on the 2011 Medicare Trustees Report yesterday, the two public trustees of Medicare, Dr. Charles P. Blahous and Dr. Robert Reischauer, admitted that Berkley and the Democrats’ plan would “end Medicare as we know it,” “bankrupt” the program and lead to benefit cuts for seniors. “Medicare’s own public trustees are warning Nevadans that Shelley Berkley’s policies will ‘end Medicare as we know it,’ by bankrupting the program and cutting benefits for seniors,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox.  “Why does Shelley Berkley and Byron Georgiou continue to put their partisan interests ahead of the…

Berkley Votes Against Common-Sense Efforts To Lower Gas Prices & Create Jobs

Last night, Shelley Berkley joined her liberal friends in Washington and voted against the Jobs and Energy Permitting Act that could create approximately 54,000 jobs and ensures that the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System remains operable, protecting energy supplies for millions of American families and small businesses struggling with high gas prices. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Shelley Berkley (D-Las Vegas) has voted against pro-domestic energy and pro-jobs legislation.  In fact, this is now the fourth common-sense energy bill that Berkley has voted against in just this Congress.  Meanwhile her opponent Byron Georgiou has continued to remain silent regarding his position on domestic energy production. “This year, Las Vegas Congresswoman Shelley Berkley has voted four times against strengthening domestic energy production, which would increase our supply of domestic oil and reduce the price of gasoline,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Jahan Wilcox.  “With the high price of gasoline, Nevadans…

As Shelley Berkley And Byron Georgiou Seek A $2 Trillion Blank Check, CBO Issues Dire Report On Debt Crisis

With our national debt at $14.3 trillion, Shelley Berkley (D-Las Vegas) and Byron Georgiou (D-Nevada) are calling for a $2 trillion debt ceiling increase without any substantive spending reforms, meanwhile the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office [CBO] today released a deeply troubling report on our country’s fiscal future. In its latest update of The Long-Term Budget Outlook, the CBO provides an overview of the looming debt crisis and projects that by the end of this year, the federal debt will reach roughly 70 percent of gross domestic product (GDP)—the highest percentage since shortly after World War II. “Years of borrowed spending and bigger government have brought our country to the most predictable economic crisis in American history and Shelley Berkley and Byron Georgiou’s solution is increase our credit card limit by another $2 trillion,” National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesman Jahan Wilcox said today.  “It’s a remarkable failure of leadership and it’s time…

KEY VOTE ALERT: Will Shelley Berkley Continue Her Streak Of Voting Against Common-Sense Efforts To Lower Gas Prices & Create Jobs?

With Americans facing record gas prices, the House of Representatives this week is scheduled to vote on another common-sense initiative aimed at addressing this growing problem.    The Jobs and Energy Permitting Act will not only create an estimated 54,000 jobs, but will also ensure that the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System remains operable, protecting energy supplies for millions of American families and small businesses struggling with high gas prices. Unfortunately, this year alone, Shelley Berkley (D-Las Vegas) has already voted three times against pro-domestic energy and pro-jobs legislation.  The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) asked today whether Berkley intends to continue her “do-nothing” energy platform and when Byron Georgiou will finally step forward to tell Nevadans where he stands on America’s energy crisis. “When it comes to addressing high gas prices, Shelley Berkley has consistently stood in the way of common-sense initiatives, while her opponent Bryon Georgiou has decided to stonewall Nevadans…

Shelley Berkley’s Endless Summer…

One Year After Declaring “Recovery Summer,” Stimulus Failure Continues To Highlight Berkley’s Reckless Spending, Broken Promises  WASHINGTON – It’s been a full year since President Obama and Shelley Berkley (D-Las Vegas) declared that it was a “Recovery Summer,” promising that their $787 billion in reckless deficit spending would fix Nevada’s ailing economy. So, to mark the one-year anniversary of Berkley and the Democrats’ “Recovery Summer,” it’s worth examining a few of the claims Shelley Berkley and her bosses in the Obama Administration made for their failed economic policies.  For instance… ·         Berkley claimed her stimulus would “create or save more than 34,000 jobs.”  But Nevada has lost over 56,000 jobs since the stimulus was rammed into law.  As President Obama admitted this week, “[s]hovel-ready was not as … uh .. shovel-ready as we expected.” ·         Berkley’s stimulus also gave money to tax cheats and used to “create” jobs in fictitious…

1.9 Million Fewer Americans Have A Job Since The Reid-Berkley-Georgiou Stimulus Was Signed Into Law

The Silver State Has Lost Over 58,000 Jobs Since The Bill Was Passed When Congresswoman Shelley Berkley (D-Las Vegas) and her tax-and-spend friends in Washington rammed through the $787 billion stimulus, she promised it would ‘create or save’ 3.5 million jobs and approximately 34,000 of these jobs would be in Nevada.  The fact is after 28 months since the stimulus was passed, nearly 1.9 million fewer Americans are employed and Nevada has lost over 58,000 jobs. As CNSNews reports: Twenty-eight months after Congress passed President Obama’s signature economic stimulus law, and nearly one year after he declared the summer of 2010 to be “Recovery Summer,” 1.9 million fewer people are employed.  In February 2009, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that 141.7 million people were employed. By the end of May 2011 – the last month for which data are available – that number had fallen to 139.8 million,…
