NEW AD: What Else is Hickenlooper Hiding?
The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) released a new TV ad today in Colorado highlighting a recent CBS Denver–Colorado Sun exposé that revealed John Hickenlooper accepted millions of dollars in private donations – including hundreds of thousands in anonymous donations – with almost no oversight or disclosure. The practice raises “all sorts of red flags,” especially since some donors said they were paying for policy positions.
Hickenlooper’s penchant for secrecy when it comes to how he conducted business as governor is wrong on many levels, and it’s why he should fully disclose all travel-related schedules from his time as governor.
“John Hickenlooper’s never faced a tough race, and after just a few weeks under pressure Coloradans have witnessed erratic behavior, including ignoring a subpoena and being found in contempt,” said NRSC spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez. “Now his past is being exposed and ‘it’s raising all sorts of red flags’ as voters are left wondering how such a ‘believer in transparency‘ could hide so many corporate donations and gifts.”
Last night’s CBS Denver Reality Check on the NRSC’s earlier ad summed up this race best: “Bottom line, Hickenlooper brought this on himself. When you violate ethics laws, ignore a subpoena, and are found in contempt, the attack ads write themselves.”
“The largest ethics fine in state history, but there’s more.”
“Millions of dollars in private donations to the office of then-Governor John Hickenlooper.
“Under the radar and off the books.
“More than $330,000 that were also anonymous donations.
“Some foundations tell us they paid for policy positions in the Governor’s office.
“Just raises all sorts of red flags.
“John Hickenlooper broke the law. What else is he hiding?”
