Devoid of a leader and heading into the 2018 midterm elections without a message, red state Senate Democrats are looking to former President Barack Obama and his failed policies to aid their flailing campaigns.

Politico reported that Obama is set to headline a Hollywood fundraiser for vulnerable Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill, which is an odd choice considering red state voters made it clear they want nothing to do with the disastrous policies of the Obama administration. After already voting against the wildly successful Republican tax cuts, Senator Manchin is doing everything he can to prove to West Virginia voters that he doesn’t deserve another term.

The major question for Joe Manchin today is will he welcome Barack Obama to West Virginia?

“With Barack Obama hitting the campaign trail for red state Dems, Joe Manchin will have to decide whether to bring the unpopular former President to West Virginia,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “Obama’s campaign stops will only remind West Virginians that Manchin supported his failed policies, and that while he votes against President Trump’s agenda, he stood with the former President even as his constituents overwhelmingly rejected him.”
