Washington, D.C. – With no votes in the Senate this week and Senators back in their home states, Mark Kelly is hopefully using his time at home to continue studying his stance on the filibuster. A month ago, Mark Kelly again told the Arizona Republic he was studying the filibuster question – after ignoring the question during his entire 2020 campaign.
Luckily for Mark Kelly, the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) released new study materials. The FGA found that more than half of Arizona voters support the legislative filibuster because it ensures legislation would “have to receive bipartisan support in order to pass.” The poll also found that more than half of Arizona voters would be LESS LIKELY to vote for Mark Kelly’s colleague, Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema, if she voted with radical Democrats to abolish the legislative filibuster.
Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Katharine Cooksey: “D.C. Darling Mark Kelly could not be in a worse position. Does he side with Chuck Schumer, Bernie Sanders, and his D.C. special interest benefactors to abolish the filibuster? Or does he follow through on his campaign pledge to always do what is best for Arizona, listen to voters, and vote against abolishing the filibuster? For Mark Kelly who likes to pretend to be an independent voice for Arizona, there’s no good answer. Arizonans are about to catch him in the act of siding with the D.C. special interest groups who fund his campaign over the interests of Arizona.”
