Congressman Murphy’s vote against the Ratepayer Protection Act will result in a 13% average increase in energy costs for families across the state of Florida and up to an 18% increase in peak years.

“Congressman Murphy’s vote for higher energy costs is irresponsible and contradicts the interests of Floridians,” said NRSC spokesman Matt Connelly. “Increased energy costs affect the bottom line of families across Florida and usually mean less money for putting food on the table or back-to-school supplies. Unlike Privileged Patrick Murphy, not all Floridians are able to cash in their Dad’s stock options to pay for higher energy costs imposed by out-of-touch liberal politicians.”

Just yesterday, the NRSC pointed out how Senate Democrat Leader-In-Waiting Chuck Schumer promised that Patrick Murphy would help lead the charge for a new carbon tax.

BACKGROUND…

Murphy Voted Against The Ratepayer Protection Act Of 2015, Which Would Delay The EPA’s Rule For Power Plants And Let Governors Opt Out Of Complying.** “Passage of a bill that would postpone the dates by when states and existing fossil-fuel power plants must comply with current or future EPA rules to reduce carbon emissions until all judicial challenges are completed, and it allows state governors to opt out of developing an emissions reduction plan or complying with a federal plan for existing plants if he or she determines that the requirement would have an adverse effect on electricity ratepayers.” (H.R. 2042, CQ Vote #384: Passed 247-180, R 239-4, D 8-176, 6/24/15, Murphy Voted Nay)
