Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst officially announced that she is running for reelection in 2020. Sen. Ernst kicked off her campaign with her fifth annual Roast and Ride event in Boone, IA. The 49-mile motorcycle ride from Des Moines to Boone, led by Joni herself, drew over 250 bikers who wanted to show their support for our veterans. All proceeds from the event went to Retrieving Freedom, an Iowa-based non-profit organization that trains service dogs for veterans and autistic children.

Once in Boone, Joni took the stage to talk about the great work that she has done since taking office five years ago. One of Joni’s major accomplishments was getting the Stop Questionable, Unnecessary, and Excessive Allowances for Legislators (SQUEAL) Act passed in 2017. This legislation is characteristic of Sen. Ernst’s commitment to “make ‘em squeal” and put Iowa first.

As the first female combat veteran elected to the Senate, Joni has taken on issues central to the military and veteran experience. Joni led a bipartisan effort to address sexual assault in the military and her bill included in the NDAA this year provides for greater oversight and more effective prosecution of sexual violence in the military.

“While I’m Iowa nice, I’m not afraid to go out there and fight.”

Joni also called on all Iowans to defend their state from the radical socialists that have descended upon their state ahead of the Democrat Iowa caucus next year. Joni understands that there is an “important balance between government responsibility and individual liberty.” Joni has worked with the President to ensure that the policies coming out of Washington really do benefit the people of Iowa. Recently she worked with the President to enable the year-round sale of E15.

The event also included appearances from a star-studded line-up including fellow Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, and Former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley – all showing their support for Joni Ernst and Republicans statewide.

“I will never stop standing up, as Iowa’s tireless defender, to ensure we stay the course toward a brighter future with opportunity for all.”
