After failing to learn their lesson from their unsuccessful push to block Mike Pompeo’s nomination as secretary of state, Democrats are back to playing politics with our national security.
This time, Senate Democrats are threatening to stop Gina Haspel, an eminently qualified career CIA operative, from heading the CIA. Democrat opposition comes despite widespread support across the political spectrum. Haspel has earned praise from Democrats, including former Senator Evan Bayh and former CIA and Department of Defense Chief of Staff Jeremy Bash, who said her confirmation “would send exactly the right signal to both the intelligence community and America.” But Senate Democrats are once again signaling that they’re more concerned with appeasing the far-left resistance than doing what’s best for our country.
“Gina Haspel has been praised by Republicans and Democrats alike as one of the most qualified people ever nominated to head the CIA, and Senate Democrats’ opposition reeks of pure partisanship,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “Red state Democrats who follow their far-left colleagues and oppose Haspel will show their constituents that they are more loyal to their party bosses than their country.”
